Well what will happen when a car maker tries to build DVD players? The result is pretty obvious! they goofed up. The only thing good about the product was its price and the good looks the player had to offer. Well this is what happened to me. Bangalore Consumer Exhibitions in Palace Grounds. I have been scouting around for a DVD player for some time and was looking for a player, which could play MPEG4/ DivX. The only option was the Philips player which had these features. Then I came across the Hyundai stall and here is a good looking DVD Player which is emitting an Ultra violet blue light and playing a Video (HY-02S4 ). The looks made me more curios about the product and I went on to check the specs. Voila, this one play MPEG4 and the price 3500 INR, much lower than the Philips offering. What more, I ended up buying the player from the Hyundai stall. The player did well for the first 2 weeks, and then it stopped loading the discs. The loading tray is ejected and you insert the disc, the disc goes in and then all you hear is some big noise of the motor running. When you tap the player on top it runs. I called up the customer support and at last a guy turned up. He opened the player and says faulty mechanism sir, I will come again and replace the mechanism. After two days and endless calls to their customer support the guy came and changed some levers. It is past 6 months now, the player has stopped loading the disc again. This time the trouble is 'No Disc' message. The disc goes in but does not read and displays the above message. Again calls to their service, the guy who answered the phone collected the billing details and then says 'sir, the warranty is only for 6 months'. When they sold the player they said it is 1 year. Does Hyundai Electronics trust their product for only 6 months? Cheap Delhi makes will guarantee you 1 year and they say that with a lot of confidence. Again the service guy comes home, the excuse this time 'Pickup Motor' is not working properly. Sir, I do not have spares with me now, I will come with the same tomorrow. It is two days since the guy has left. I am still trying to contact the Bangalore service...
