Getz Rocks. Review on Hyundai Getz Prime

I think this is the right time to post my initial experiences with new Hyundai Getz Prime. Please note that this review is purely based on only driving experience and has got no technical information/comparison of any kind.

I got a GVS model (Deep Pearl Blue) a week back and till date I have driven 220KM.

*1. Mileage

*This one is interesting. I am getting an unbelievable mileage of 14.6/Litre. The reason I am saying that this is an unbelievable figure is people who are aware of Calcutta (Kolkata) city traffic conditions would understand.

Mainly I commute from my home to office which is an absolute regular drive comprising of 4 KMs up and down and the traffic is an absolute mess. If I set out from home slightly late say beyond 9 AM, you just cannot drive the car in 4th gear forget about 5th. The cars moves like a big serpent with on and off you switch between 3rd to 2nd gears and almost half of the way you keep on pressing the clutch.

In this kind of situation getting the above quoted mileage is unbelievable. I still have doubts whether my calculations are right.

One more thing to emphasize, the mileage is without AC on.

*2. Power steering.

*I have been driving Ambassador in early days and then Daewoo Matiz (the lowest model without Power steering). This is one of my most favorite features every time I drive my Getz. The car takes U turns which are almost always in Calcutta, like a cake walk. I never feel that I am driving the largest hatchback with such an ease.

Only one problem here which is off my personal opinion, the Horn could have been little louder for all rickshaws and autos to hear. You need to shout loud to make a deaf person listen :-). Pressing the Horn also takes a little effort. Somehow horn could have been little smoother.

*3. AC

*This is an area of disappointment. The AC in regulator setting 3 is taking long time to cool the car and with highest regulator setting of 4 the blower is making noise and with that if the music system is ON, you won't be able to listen any horns of side and following vehicles.

The dealer told that me that due to extreme humid climate of Calcutta it is behaving in this fashion and have assured me that they would take a look at it in the first Service, so lets wait and watch what comes up.

*4. Suspension

*Forget the bumpers, potholes and broken roads of classic Calcutta. The suspension won't allow you feel this. I cross huge bumpers with ease and sometimes I feel great with the Camel movement I get out of it.

*5. Speed

*I have touched only above 80 Kms/hour once, as I have said earlier that I drive mostly within City. I felt that the car touched that speed in seconds and I could still feel the car is in my control. My experience with Matiz was different as in Speed 80 I used to feel that the car is going out of control.

Whatever speed you drive you will still feel the car is steadily holding the road and moving.

*6. Electricals

*General opinion is good, no complains. I got a Sony music system with four speakers and it plays great.

*7. Interiors

*The interiors were standard, I like the dash board which gives you a feel of driving some kind of a SUV. The space is absolute fabulous. Unless you get inside you will not realize that the car has so much of a space within. The 60/40 reclining features of back seats are very well thought of. Once I had completely reclined my back seat to 180 degrees, gave side pillows and my two year old son had happily slept with two side pillows; me and my wife in front driving within city for almost 19 Kms. In the whole drive he never woke up.

*8. Dealer Experience

*I got the car from Saini Hyundai at Kolkata. I had a fine experience with them. The sales guy (Arya) was very cordial and was ready to give me answers and updated me of my car status very regularly. Actually the color I had chosen went out of stock for some time and I had to wait almost 15 days additional from my promised delivery date. But every day I used to get calls from the dealer and they used to update me of status. They also gave me the Hyundai marketing contact person number in Delhi, in case I wanted to cross verify.

I got additional accessories from the dealer as Teflon Coating, Anti Rust coating, Key less entry with Burglar Alarm and a Car cover.

Overall till now I am very satisfied with my car, maybe after second service is done, I would be able to provide you guys with more updates.
