It Is surprising to know that a review on this movie was never written before despite completing a month of release. Perhaps everyone preferred going to Sajjanpur village than wanting to listen to Hulla created by Sushant Singh and Rajat Kapoor. After many a days of ignoring this movie, I decided to give it a try and watch it with a determination of not falling aleep even if it looked boring.

THE STORY

The story revolves around a couple - Raj (Sushant Singh) and his wife Abha (Kartikadevi Rane) who have shifted to a two bedroom flat in Mumbai. Raj is a smart broker in broker firm and Abha is a marketing professional. Their busy but peaceful life goes in for a toss when Raj, a light sleeper hears noises at night which disturbs his sleep. He ignores it for a day or two but unable to sleep for the third day comes down and investigates the source of noise and dicovers that the whistling of the night watchman is disturbing him. The watchman tells him that it is the order of the building secretary to make him whistle in the night to scare away the thieves. He meets the secretary Janardhan (Rajat Kapoor) and requests him to do away with this arrangement as it disturbs him in the night. Janardhan keeps a meeting with the building people asking them if it creates a problem. None of them raise any objection and the whistling continues which slowly turns Raj's world upside down. His inability to sleep for nights together takes a toll on him and his professional life suffers terribly. He gets short-tempered and does not  tolerate any kind of noise, be it for loud speakers of his neighbours, the thud of stick by watchman, and even the noises in the office. Frustrated, he complains to the local police, but they get impressed with the security system and do little to help him. His friend jokes about the whistling, his wife who is not disturbed by it gets upset with him. Raj tries every method to irritate Janardhan including luring the watchman. But Janardhan leaves no stone unturned to attack back. You would also discover how different Janardhan and Raj are. The way they treat their families, their professional life etc. The movie climax is unexpected and somewhat sad.

The best part of the movie is that it reminds us as to how our neighbours irritate us on trivial issues. Some issues can upset a person to such an extent that he stops thinking sensibly, which is exactly what happening to Raj. Infact, it reminded me of my neighbour who had this weird habit of pulling the bed at 12:15 midnight. Why? I don't know, but exactly 12:15!!! And I would wake up, curse her and go to sleep!! Could not talk to her much since she was quite elderly and it would be imprudent on my part to complain to her. Thankfully, this problem did not continue for too many days as she left the home. Oops back to the movie...

STARCAST

Sushant Singh has given an excellent performance as Raj, you could relate him to your normal next door neighbour.

Karthikadevi Rane is seen after a long time and she supports him very well as a co-star. There is a cheer and sensibility you find in her.

The master performer here is Rajat Kapoor, you get upset with him, you feel sorry too for what he suffers from , you find a meanness in him too.

The watchman is awesome here and one would almost think that he had  really been a watchman before this. You feel sorry for him in the end.

MY OPINION

The songs are not too catchy. The problem with this one is that the story gets somewhat predictable in the middle of the movie and drags a bit. At some areas, it is somewhat unrealisitc too. For instance the neighbours appear unconvincingly silly and that makes it quite unrealisitic. This is a movie worth watching when you do not want to watch Karz or Drona. Well, this carries a dark humour ..something similar to jaane bhi do yaaron, but definitely that one is beyond comparison. So, no comparison, just a halka fulka flavour. Popcorn khaao aur timepass karo.  Atleast concept toh nayaa hai... don't have too many expectations and you would not get disappointed with the movie.
