And the grilled mutton leg! I know three Empires in Bangalore - one in Central Street near Infantry Road, one near the Russell Market in Shivaji Nagar and one on Residency Road - and I've been to all three. Now you know that I love experimenting!

I prefer the one in Residency Road. It's situated near the Brigade Road - Residency Road intersection on the same row as Indiana Fast food, adjacent to the St. Patrick Church Entrance. Food-wise, one of the tastiest places in town, and as I said earlier my choice is the Grilled Chicken which comes at INR 110 per full chicken and INR 55 for half the amount. It takes me back to the authentic grills in Paris. So yum yum. Eat whatever you can and pack the rest is my motto!

Empire went in for a expansion adding more space in the first floor and the decor is basically warm. It's noisy and not fit for a patient meal, but the food is great and the price quite affordable. Being run by Mallus the best things are the Kerala Paratha, Mutton dishes (go for the Mutton Varuval). The staff is friendly and if you order for regular items it comes quite fast. The average cost for two persons will work out to INR 150 or less - and I guess you didn't order the full Mutton leg which is priced at INR 175.

Prior reservation is not needed, especially after the new space has been added. Paid parking can be found at Brigade road, or in front of Indiana Fast Food.

In general, this restaurant is recommended even for regular eating out. The crowd is young but not just Mallus :) And head straight for the first floor. And the grill at Residency road is the best among all the Empires in Bangalore.

Update on May 2003: Service at the Residency Road restaurant seems to be getting worse. We once jumped out after being left hungry and unattended for a long and tiring 20 minutes. Despite this, we've been there again and though we were lucky to be treated better, I am concerned at the fall in the level of service. However, as long as they serve the best grilled chicken in town, I might try to put up with Empire. But perhaps, not for too long.
