Im Rohana from Sri Lanka. Several months ago, I was researching about a bike in 150cc segment. I did a huge research spending several months. Mouthshut.com helped me lot to do that. And I got lots of information from ppl who r riding the bikes. And I didn’t care much about what companies say. So my some major facts were, the bike should be…

1) Quality – (I hope to use it 5years +. So it should be quality one)

2) Reliable – (I hate when they always give problems)

3) Good Riding position and Handling – (I hope to ride long journeys and traffic too. So back pain should not be there and Handling is very important)

4) Mileage – I don’t expect 100Kmpl from 150cc bike. But I expect around 50Kmpl average.

5) Look – Ofcourse. Look is also needed. (Im 23years old ;))

So there are Pulsar, Apache, Hunk, CBZ extream, Unicorn here in Sri Lanka. At the 1st stage I just removed Pulsar and Apache in my list. Cos Pulsar is very common and low quality even it has good look mileage, pickup... Apache, I personally don’t like it’s back look even though it has great front look, pickup and I don’t like its riding position and I had doubts about engine quality.

I went to Stafford motors 2 times and finally changed my mind and bought Honda Unicorn even I went to buy Hunk. 1st I selected Hunk since it has great look, good Riding position, Handling, Quality and Reliable. But It has less Mileage compared to Unicorn. And one major factor I refused Hunk is its tied gear shifting. And the mono shock in unicorn! I know that’s gonna be great. Finally I bought Unicorn (BLACK) even though it’s yet just 1month, Unicorn released in Sri Lanka. But I kept all my faith on HONDA and mouthshut reviews. Now let me tell about the Unicorn.

I bought it yesterday and Im gonna say my initial feeling. 1st problem (not a actual problem) I faced while riding the bike to home (almost 40Km)was the engine sound. It almost generates no sound when you ride it. Specially in traffic, I was in trouble in gear shifting as I was new to it. Sometimes I was keep looking RPM meter for getting help for gear changes. Engine is smooth unlike anything!!. As I expected, gear shifting is also smooth and I was very happy about it. Riding position is superb and it has great control too. I was riding it in bad traffic just like I’m familiar with bike very well. Breaking is also good (Front disk brake is a must for me). I can’t say anything about Mileage yet. But I expect average 50+ Kmpl according to others reviews. 13litre big fuel tank makes you feel like you are riding a monster bike. Bike is very comfortable. I’m sure the mono shock which is very new to the Indian bikes, is gonna very useful and it helps to have a great control. And I’m happy there is no back pain in this bike. I love its riding position. Bike is heavy. But it doesn’t cause any inconvenience in controlling bike for me. Actually it’s helpful when you ride in speed.  Seat is also good one. You can ride with 3rd person in there as seat is almost in same level. But according to the manual, weight should be maximum 170Kg. (I’m sorry I can’t say much about pick up, acceleration so on since I’m still running my 1st 500Km)

About look, when I was in showroom, I felt like this bike has no look compared to Hunk. But I changed that idea later. This bike has a great look. It’s a decent one. Not sporty very much compared to other bikes. I had the experience when I was riding it. Everyone was looking at it. When ppl see the HONDA badge, they get shocked!! Here in Sri Lanka there is a huge demand for Honda. Cos before these Indian bikes come to the market, everyone was riding Japan bikes. They buy only one bike for a wholelife. So they know the quality of them.

People talk about digital speedometers and LED back lights. Well I personally dislike digital speedometer even it is sexy. If it has a problem with the time, you should replace it and it costs bad. And there are lot of complains in speed errors, fuel meter errors so on. Unicorn miss the back LED lights, but it looks like LED lights with the light cup.

Bad Side

Some people have an issue with its look. But not for me anymore. It has a decent look as I told. It doesn’t have unnecessary plastic items just used for the look in other bikes. But I also think some parts like speedometer could have been designed better as everyone tells. I saw some people had told the Head light is not sufficient. It’s not true for me and It’s a very bright one. Well the Horn is not a good one. I’m thinking to replace a good one later.

To be honest, there is no bad side of this bike (not as I’m an owner of it). I’m just pretty happy of my final decision. I hope to post my 2nd review after completing about 2500Km. I believe this review will help for ppl specially struggling to select a bike in 150cc segment. Yes sometimes It’s hard rather than finding money for a bike.

I believe the Honda. I don’t think they will add their great brand name and badge to a cheap product. I’m happy I become a WING RIDER.

Thanks.
