The Honda City is the main reason behind Honda’s premium image in India. It has been the reigning dominator of the sedan segment and features in every car manufacturer’s rival list in India.

The Honda City was the first one of the first Honda cars to be offered to the Indian customers in the 90s and since then has been a mainstay of the Honda line-up. Even when the diesel car demand was at its peak, the Honda City ringed in consistent numbers in spite of being petrol only. The C-segment sedan, now in its fourth generation in India, has upped the game with the Earth Dreams diesel engine in its kitty. The Honda City has been designed with Man Maximum Machine Minimum concept making the vehicle compact and maximum space on the inside. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine produces 118bhp of power and 145Nm of maximum torque. This engine comes with a five-speed manual and CVT options. The CVT comes with paddle shifts that has seven-speeds set. The second engine on offer is a diesel, the Earth Dreams 1.5-litre i-DTEC. This four cylinder turbo-diesel develops 99bhp of power and 200Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Driveability is one of the strongest points of these engines and even the fuel efficiency they return. The 1498 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 24 kmpl in city and 26 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 15 kmpl on urban roads and 17 kmpl and freeways, respectively. Honda Brio Amaze would be the first Honda sedan to get the diesel engine in India and it would be interesting to see if the Brio Amaze diesel sedan affects the sales of the City even in the slightest way possible.
