6/12/02 Alas, Ol Jake is now resting after 8 1/2 years of perfect service. He has been replaced by my new 2002 Nissan Altima. As soon as MS adds this new automobile for me, I will tell you about it!
Im going to tell you a story about my 1994Honda Civic.
Let's just call him.....Ol Jake.
I purchased Ol Jake brand spanking new from a dealer here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida,U.S.A. He is a mid-sized 2 door coupe in an odd shade of marroon. No one wanted him because of her color, so he sat on the showroom floor looking sad. Until I walked in. It was love at first sight! I wanted something different. I walked up to him and ran my hand over his shiny body, opened the door and looked inside at the beautiful grey interior. Grey velour seats, and plush grey carpet. A sporty steering wheel,stereo with a cassette player,an air conditioner, room for 4 adults to sit in comfort. Air bags on both the driver side and passenger side in front. A beautifully engineered illuminated dashboard. I was falling deeply in love
I got out of the front seat and walked over to Ol Jakes hood and raised it gently, Under his hood was a beautiful, shining engine which I am told has 4 cylinders, enough to get me where I want to go and give me 28 miles per gallon of gasoline in city driving and 35 miles per gallon, in highway traffic. My love deepens. He won't cost me a fortune in gasoline to drive !
I took Ol Jake out for a test drive (and it was raining!), I didn't know how happy he'd be taking his first ride in the rain. But, he was happy! He handled beautifully. The rain didn't stop him from handling like a dream! His automatic transmission shifted smoothly and quietly and his windsheild wipers brushed the rain away for perfect vision.
I had to have him!
We drove back to the dealership and I sat down with the
nice young man who was going to sell me Ol Jake. We talked
price. And talked some more. And finally came to a price we would both be happy with. $14,500.00. Immediate delivery, floor mats includes (to keep Ol Jakes floors nice and clean)
Since Ol Jake and I became ''an item'', I have treated him well. Every 5,000 miles his oil is changed, his hoses and belts are checked. All his fluids are kept at recommended levels, the air in his tires are kept at the correct pressure.
In the 7 years Ol Jake and I have been together, I've bought him new tires twice and had his brakes replaced one time.
Ol Jake has been good to me, he's taken me in comfort through 5 states and numerous trips here and there. He has survived being parked in parking lots and driven through flooded streets. Ol Jake now has 90,000 miles on him and he runs like new. (I may let him warm up a few minutes now before driving off, but as we all age we too need a little extra time.) He still handles well and is still getting me the same great gas milage. His paint may not be as shiny anymore, But his heart (engine) is.
With the regular maintenance I've given him, I've been told, he will serve me well for another 90,000 miles!
I guess I'll go give Ol Jake a bath now, the old guy still likes to be clean!
