This car is certainly on my "to buy" list. I presently own a Tata SUV which serves me well. I bought the latest Tata SUV for the ride, durability, interior space, and the negotiation of rough roads and off road terrain - but the Ambassador - a favorite in the South India of the 1970s prior to my immigration to the States - remains forever in my sentimental heart.
I had numerous opportunities as a passenger in this classic car from perhaps my birth onwards to the present day incarnation- and whether a battered old model clunking along or the latest with a/c, etc - its been a ephemeral, almost poetic experience sitting luxuriously in the Spartan-ly upholstered interior. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone - I'm too selfish ! I wouldn't mind standing out by purchasing this car given the competition from the USA, Europe, Japan and Korea. Then again: "I'm an adman - not a madman !" (or so the saying goes !)
Other than for exotic connoisseurs of vintage design - there is really no market outside practical, India based affecianados .... I have never seen one outside of India - and there probably isnt one outside of India. That's part of the charm of the Ambassador ! You have to be Indian to buy (and love) this automobile.
