I brought My HH CD 100 in 1989, which is Red colour. Hero Honda had major share of two wheeler market because of 'Fill it shut it forget it ' technology,
Before 1984 market was dominated by Royal Enfield (Bullet ), Ideal Jawa (, Roadking, Classic) Esc*rts (Rajdoot std & RD 350) & Bajaj (Chetak, Super & Priya)
Bullet was only Four storke bike, but very expensive, for midle class people only bajaj product was the option, but riding Motorcycle is is totally different experience than scooters, but cost & fuel efficiency was the matter. Mileage of scooter was 35-40 km/lit & that of heavy bikes was in the range of 25-35 Km/lit.This was the right time HH introduced 100 cc 4 stroke bike, with mileage of 65-70 km/lit.
To be frank due to increased petrol cost , Roadking & Bullet were very expensive for daily use in crowded city of mumbai. Why I dont know Chetak & Priya were not comfortable for me, (may be habitual rider of motorcycle)
I decided to purchase HH CD 100 in 1989, My father said "You are going to use light motorcycle?"& I said "Yes", He said "you will sell it within a month". I went with my father to Deep motors and selected red coloured HH CD 100.
My first experience was that as if I am riding a bicycle or a moped, I was regular rider of Roadking & Bullet, but it was very easy to use , unidirectional gear shift , light weight for better control in crowded city like mumbai & plus point was great mileage of 50 + km/lit in heavy traffic where you hardly go for top gear.
My HH CD has completed 20 years, Till date I have done 40 k lilometers , my long tour is Mumbai-Aurangabad- Mumbai in year 2006 yes in year 2006, without any trouble to bike, but I had back pain for one complete day, (Because of my height 6'.1) so not good for long tours. I got mileage of 70 km/lit & even after 17 years it has proved FILL IT SHUT IT FORGET IT. It is small (7.5 BHP) reliable engine.
