You have heard of slimming diets and workout programmes for shedding those extra kilos, but how about a pearl-earring that could help u slim by just being worn?. Or an exotic tea that could help take off?upto 8 kg in 2 weeks, without having to go hungry? or better still, how bout a magic belt that would break down fat globules by simply strapping the gadget on to ur body?


These?magical? remedies certainly do help reduce weight, weight of your wallet, that is!


These ads sound too good to b true and that?s exactly what they are?tailor-made to lure unsuspecting consumers wanting to lose weight! Most obese people take a crack at everything-jogging, crash diets, aerobics- and when wonders don?t happen overnight, they fall prey to slimming pills, gadgets etc.


Fat busters are nothing but hunger suppressants and are diuretic in nature i.e. they only reduce water content from the body and do not alter the calorie count.


Gadgets and health clinics cant work magic without taking into consideration metabolism, exercise, diet, lifestyle and other factors.


Hmm.then I guess I just have to skip meals


Hell no! its so easy to skip a meal and feel that all your eating sins r washed away.


Every meal?breakfast, lunch and dinner?has to be eaten and every meal must be balanced with both carbohydrates n proteins.


Carboydrates feature:bread, cereals, idli, rice, roti, pasta etc. and u get protein from dal, pulses, channa, moong, milk, curd, egg, chicken, fish etc. Besides these, vegetables, salads+ fruits must be eaten for vitamins n minerals. So not eating at a meal time is wrong n so is haing just a fruit, only a soup or salad or only a glass of milk.


Skipping meals is the worst health sin u can commit against ur body. The harm caused by this is often irreparable n damaging to ur health.


The first problem is Anaemia or Iron deficiency: Iron is found in balanced meals and is absorbed into the body with the help of vitamin B n C present in balanced meals. When u eat a pastry at 6 pm and skip dinner u may compensate the calorie but u lose nutrients. Two decades ago, it was the problem of the poor.


Today it?s the problem of the rich n overweight. . Worse, when u r anaemic u r sleepy, slow and lethargic, then u burn less calories and its much more difficult to lose weight. Moreover, when u eat pastry at 6 pm-u r only depositing more fat tissue and when u skip dinner? u breakdown muscle tissue. After a few months time - u will find that ur body composition changes. U may maintain the same weight but the fat percentage goes up n the muscle mass goes down.


Got the point!So NO SKIPPING MEALS K!

I have Good news *for u!.U can lose 30 kg without any machines, pills or powders but u have to *learn to eat healthy, exercise everyday and drink plenty of water(2-3 litres)

If u want to pull out fat from ur body, u cant put fatty food into ur body. You can't touch chips, fries, snacks, sweets, nuts, pastries, pies, cookies, cakes, mayonnaise, butter, ghee, cheese, paneer and rich red meats. U have to use skimmed milk.


?Wail! Wail! But all the yummy stuff is in this list. How can one live without all this?:(?


Heres the nice part, its not forever, its only for a short period of time. One month to lose 3 kg.about 3 months to lose 10 n 10 months to lose 30 kgs. Whats 3 months or six months or even a year in ur lifetin\me?if u can b fit n beautifull /handsome at the end of it. Just think u have an allergy to these foods for some time.

Follow a balanced n healthy eating plan, starting now n going on forever so that it becomes a way of life. In this plan, u never skip a meal, u eat 3 balanced meals, which are divided as 40%= breakfast+ 11 am fruit: 40% lunch+ tea: 20% dinner.


Every meal must have a balance of carbohydrates+ proteins. One also needs to eat plenty of fibre that comes as whole cereals, atta bread, dry rotis, or wheat flakes, ragi roti, raw salads n fresh whole fruits(avaoid juices as they lose the fibre)


Fibre helps to make ur body work harder every time it has to be digested. Therefore you spend fat as even as u digest ur food, internal exercise is going on.

?Exercise!.now do I have to join a gym?


Yes exercise n efforts on keeping fit nowadays do not mean a compulsory trip to a gym, downing health drinks or signin up for a weight reduction and personality programme.


Just skip the fancy.and try any of the following:


1)WALKING:: Its absolutely free. No fuss option. If u have the will, u will find the way.


2)CLIMBING THE STARES:: No extra cost. Steps a must. Initially, an uphill task.


3)SKIPPING:: Not as in skipping work. U just need a piece of rope. It wont cut into ur budget.


4)SWIMMING:: Its swimmingly simple. A coach and a pool are a must. Minimum cost.Take a plunge!


5)CYCLING:: Environment friendly option. Also keeps u slim and fit. Cost- about RS.2000 for the cycle. Where there is a wheel, there is a way!


6)YOGA:: Teacher must. Excercises will tone up body and mind. Go ahead, bend it like yoga.!


7)AEROBICS:: low -cost, it begins with a warm up, goes on to a work -out and then to a cool-down phase. Regulates ur heart beat. Lots of varieties available. At the end of it, u will have ur heart in the right place!


Don?t force urself to do something that u really don?t enjoy, ur likely to quit. Find a type of exercise u like-one that fits ur personality or needs.


But kavitha?wheres the time??


Its just too difficult for some ppl either the thought of doing a 30 min brisk walk, or the practicality of finding the time is just too difficult. If this is the case then consider accumulating this duration by shorter bouts of more frequent activity. For example:


1)Use the stairs rather than the lift at work or in the shopping centre.


2) Park ur car farthest away from the entrance of the Supermarket .


3) Don?t use the remote control to change TV channels.


4) Buy arm weights for ur home-they can b used while ur watchin TV or talking on the phone.start with 8 pounds weights n do 3 sets of bicep curls each day. After 2 months, graduate to 12 or 15 pounds weights, n add another exercise to ur repertoire.


5) Buy a fitness video. A 15 min aerobic routine is an excellent, quick way to bring cardio into ur life. Or if Pilates is more ur style, invest in a Pilates video, instead. Either way, whether, ur fitness style is high impact aerobics or intense yoga, there are lots of great fitness videos that u can use in ur own home.


6)Use ur lunch hour wisely. A brisk 20 min walk during ur lunch hour is a great fitness solution, especially if u can 3 or 4 times a week.
