My Third Year at Hogwarts. Review on Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban Movie

Ah! This thing called ''writer's block''! How it consumes you slowly, unexpectedly. How it makes you feel increasingly incapable of writing and also reluctant, which is why you don't try which is why you rust further. It is a very depressing thing. Because it plays on you even in your English Test. Which is why I'm complaining!

Harry Potter is the world's most popular and most popularly loved teenager and this claim might actually stand the test of time. To look at it from a literary point of view, it is certainly the work of a genius. Joanne Rowling has created an entirely new world that has laws, regulations, social customs and traditions. She has done that and remained consistent everywhere, without sounding artificial. It is a flawless creation, a virtual reality that hardly seems virtual. To create something fictitious and to enthral the reader and make him believe that the fictitious thing is true is a genius few have. Harry Potter is not merely a fairy tale. It is a literary genius. And entertaining as well!

The Movie Review

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban is a movie with a difference. It was the book on which it is based that I loved the most among the five available, and this movie among the three created so far that I liked the most. Why is it so though? The reason is this...

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a story that screams and shouts with those thoughts and phases that a teenager goes through as he slowly realizes that he is at the cusp of a change. The young man or lady is at the threshold of a world that is difficult to understand, away from the sugary affection and care of parents, where it is you that is punished for your words and actions. This story portrays the most dangerous, the most precarious and yet the sweetest phase of human life- puberty.

The story provides it's teenage readers a lot of sympathy. For their parents, it provides them a sweet reminder of the things that go on at home. It is a story that grips the reader's (or viewer's) heart for it connects straight to a part of life that is unforgettable.

The Actual Review At Last

Alfonso Cuaron (hope I've spelt him right) has undoubtedly done a wonderful job with the third book. Christopher Columbus couldn't manage to give the movie the kind of touch that Alfonso has done with the third. Either it's because he's incompetent or it's something about the story (or just that he's American!). Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has a touch to it that involves you deeply in it. It has been made in such a manner that the viewers correctly understand the situations and the feelings of the characters in it. Let's be more objective...

Cast Performance

Harry Potter is played by Daniel Radcliffe. Unfortunately, Daniel looks too muscular and brawny to look 13. He looks my age (which he is!). His mature looks notwithstanding, Daniel does one heck of a job with playing a troubled teenager. Some people say he can't act properly. But the truth is, a troubled teenager doesn't have too many expressions. He's in such a storm of emotion, he doesn't know which way to twist which facial muscle. Daniel does just the right kind of job for Harry Potter. And yeah female viewers will like him more this time, if you get what I mean!

Ronald (Ron) Weasley, Harry's faithful best-friend is played by Rupert Grint. I always admired Rupert about his acting. For a teenager who knows he's very poor but the friend of the most famous wizard, a sort of confusion between inferiority complexes and a bloated ego about his social circle, he plays Ron very well. He's been doing a good job about it all through!

Hermione Granger (my favourite character in the book), who is Harry's best friend as well, is played by Emma Watson. For a bossy, extremely studious girl who bothers more about not being expelled than staying alive, Emma does one heck of a job too! Emma is gifted with the natural bossy-girl tone, the natural bossy-girl looks and the natural bossy-girl style of presenting herself (well she's actually very pretty).

Hermione is my favourite character because she's the kind of bookworm I want to be this year!

I'm afraid I'm not aware of the names of those who played SiriusBlack (Harry's godfather and murder convict who's actually innocent who is also James Potter's childhood friend and best man at his wedding) and RemusLupin (who is also a very close friend of James Potter, a werefolf and Harry's teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts). I know that is a big shortcoming. Both Sirius and Remus have, however dissappointed me. Well, Remus wasn't such a dissapointment but Sirius was. Lupin poor fellow doesn't have a significantly complex character to play which makes it unfair of me to judge him now. But Sirius is certainly a complicated character. The last scene when he finally does reveal the entire truth to Harry was not sufficiently well done. The actor for Sirius could not portray the character with the kind of intensity that was necessary.

The Movie

Alfonso has had a definitive magician's touch to the movie. The special effects, camera effects and all peripherals of the movie have been used to the most optimal level which makes the movie very interesting to watch. Morover, it gives a more realistic touch to the movie, the kind of touch Joanne has used to make Harry's world look real.

Summing it all Up

I'm not a particularly good film critic so I can't make the kind of comments they make on the movie, but Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban is a movie that has been made very-very well.

For all those who like Harry Potter, this movie is a must watch. It's the most ideal troubled-teen movie minus the absolutely irritating teenager angst that the fifth book has. A must watch if you ask me!
