Bought a HP DV  2000 about 4 years back. I bought mine in the US on the HP Us Portal. The item was shipped to a relative who sent it to me.

The price I paid at that time was around $1000 which was Rs40000 at that time. In terms of the price I paid and the value ads that laptop had it was great.

The problems that followed....

  1. Heating problem - it used to heat up like crazy ... enough to burn my lap or hands if places for a longer time.

  2. The display went blank.

The Service center at bangalore said that it was not their problem and I should contact the US one. When I spoke to the us one they said they would pick it up as long as I sent it back to the US. I had no option but to send it back. After a month I got it back.

The laptop has been working OK. The heating problem  is still very bad. I have no option but to ue it as a desktop. The the problem is that laptop goes into sleep mode by itself. And sometime because it heats so much... it refused to come back on. There is some kind of trip switch which switches off the power when its really heats up.

Anyways....I cant wait to get rid of this. Maybe a few months.... and I might opt for a sony or a dell.

I dunno if HP has changed now... but from what I have seen in the market... most of these laptops heat up. Advise people to check for the heating issue before you buy any of HP's Laptops.
