I would like to make an updated review of the HP laptops for those of you who are wanting to buy a new laptop. I have my PhD defence on the 29th of August, and just now my hard disk crashed, for reason not known. In this regard I approached the HP people, they said that they will replace my hard disk but cannot recover my data, and when I wanted to recover it from a data recovery agent, they said then I cannot get it replaced through warranty. This is really crazy. I do not know who to contact or approach, the HP website does not indicate any numbers that are in working condition, nor does it have any emails, just keeps taking us in circles. So I advice any of you tryin to buy laptops, stay away from HP laptops, they are nothing but waste of your money and time and poor service.

Regards,

BVJG

I have been using the HP Pavillion dv1624TN for the last two months and I am impressed by its performance. It is on a slightly higher range as compared to its competitors, but its every bit worth it. It comes in with integrated camera and speaker and many other software that there is no need to buy any additional software or hardware like speakers or mic. Its fast even with 512 MB and gives enough space for both your office work and also for your music. Additionaly its features include 1.66 Ghz Intel Core Solo Processor, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HDD, DVD Writer, Integrated Webcam and Microphone, Altec Lansing Speakers, Integrated Bluetooth, Wifi, PCMCIA slot, 6-in-1 media card reader, 6 cell Li-ion battery, 2.4 kgs Looks are gorgeous, silver on the outside and black on the inside. Media buttons come with a blue backlight, and so do the status lights. The front panel is very aesthetically designed and slopes forward like the hood of a car, giving it that extra sleek look. Comes with Quickplay, which means you can play your DVD/VCD/ACD/mp3 CD WITHOUT booting the Windows. Speakers churn out mp3s like anything. Webcam clarity is good, but it gooe be better as unless there is enough light it is too dark. Backup is approx 3 hours, charging time is approx 90 mins. I tried using upto 3 media cards, XD picture card, Sony Memory stick Duo, and MMC card. All three of them read well, and you can transfer files at a blazing speed. Comes with a remote for the multimedia controls. It comes with XP Home pre-loaded, and without any driver disks. All the software has to be backed up immediately. If you are thinking of purchasing this I think its a good bet. Go for it.

cheers
