After the death of my husband on 1.06.15 when I applied for the compensation for the policy my experiences have been only horrifying with HDFC Life insurance. I would like to state this experience below as written in a letter to HDFC Life so you can can judge yourself what would be the kind of treatment in case claim needed!

Sub.:Notice to settle claim within two weeks time towards policy no. 16998844 taken by Mr. Gulshan Gera(deceased)!

Dear Sir / Madam

I confirm having received your letter(dated 29th September 2015) on 10. October 2015 regarding the policy no. 16998844 taken by husband late Shri Gulshan Gera, for which apparently you do not agree to accept the claim.

In this connection I refer to your remarks in the application which deals with personal details of Life to be Assured Part 2 and your investigation stating that the Life Assured was Suffering from cervical myelopathy, diabetes and hypertension and this was not disclosed at the time of taking the policy. Please be informed that your assumption of not disclosing the facts are absolutely false and baseless. All the past medical prescription of my husband were presented and shown the your insurance Agent and only on the basis of the given facts he filled up the Application Form und my Husband than signed on the Application Form.

If the application Form shows the status otherwise we strongly suspect the manipulation from your Staff / Agent! You may like to look in to that matter from that perspective. I and my daughter(Ms. Saumya Gera) can witness this that at the time of filling in the Application Form only the signature were taken from my Late Husband.

Please also note that if my husband had not disclosed the facts at the time of taking the policy of HDFC Life insurance, we would have not handed over all the past medical prescriptions to your Representative who came to us asking for all the details and past medical prescriptions as according to him they were necessary to settle the claim.

Regarding your claim that my husband was suffering from cervical myelopathy, diabetes and hypertension I would like to state the following as per below given point:

  1. Myelopathy: My Husband suffered for a short period of time with the backbone problem but after that short spell he was completely fine and not suffering anymore from any backbone problems or myelopathy and following his daily routing including driving the car and working in his factory, therefore this assumption is false that he was suffering from myelopathy.

  2. Diabetes: My Husband never had severe Diabetic. He was neither prescribed Insulin therapy nor heavy medication as due to the Diet Control, Physical Exercises and regular blood suger check his blood suger values were normal, therefore I reject your claim that my Husband was suffering any more from Diabetic.

  3. Hypertension: My Husband never ever had the problem of Hypertension. He was a Jolly natured person and never ever had taken any kind of medication for the same. Therefore this assumption is also absolutely false & ridicules.

Please also be informed as you are very well aware & updated that my husband was also covered under the Mediclaim Policy to cover any kind of hospitalization but this Policy was never used as he never needed it because he was leading a normal & healthy life apart from of few very short spell illnesses which happens to every human being now and then.

As you are also very well aware to the fact that the cause of his sudden unexpected death has NOT been associated with any of above mentioned diseases by you.

Regarding your investigation I would also like to state that your representative entered into our house without permission stating that he refused to believe that Mr. Gulshan Gera was dead and the death certificate was genuine and forced me to take him to the Hospital as well as to the cremation ground etc. Myself being unable to move in the hours of grief our of the house, I sent my relative who accompanied him to the Cremation Ground, he made the cremation papers handed over to your representative, He(your representative) was also taken to the Fortis Hospital in Jaipur where the hospital people noticed that he was carrying a fake /expired identification. However a copy of the Hospital papers was made him(to your representative) available due to request of my relative. My relative was also put under immense pressure to use his vehicle for the whole day for your HDFC Life Insurance representative else, he, the HDFC Life insurance representative stated that he would reject the claim application. Your representative used his services and vehicle during the whole time till he left Jaipur.(Until the Main bus stand Polovictory, Jaipur). He(HDFC Life Insurance Representative) also insisted to keep all the original papers & past medical prescriptions with him which he promised me to return within next three days but till date I have not received these prescriptions from HDFC Life insurance.

Due to this tactic and the treatment given to me in the hours of grief I am very disappointed and full of bitterness and strongly condemn the way of your investigation and will certainly make a complaint to IRDA(Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority) and all other concerned authorities as well lodge a FIR with the local Police Station.

Having stated the above facts I would like to conclude that HDFC Life Insurance has deliberately manipulated the facts with the ill intention of not accepting the claim of policy number 16998844 of my Late husband late Shri. Gulshan Gera.

Please be informed that due to ill intended tactics I refuse to accept any telephone calls or House visit by any of your representative. The future mode of communication will remain in writing only!

Please also be informed that payment of Rs. 32171.93 which has been sent into my bank account without any prior intimation from your side or without my prior concern is NOT acceptable at all to me and will be refunded immediately after having received your account details. You may like to send me your bank details on urgent basis!

Kindly also note that if the claim of policy number 16998844 of my Late husband Shri. Gulshan is not settled within 2 weeks of time after the receipt of this letter I will be forced not only to take an irrevocable legal action against you(HDFC Life Insurance) without any further notice but also to make people aware of the Malpractice of HDFC Life dealing with people when it comes to claim settlement.

Be assured, people would come to know about your tactics & Malpractice through a massive campaign via Electronic Media, print Media but also on a large scale on Social Media all over India.

In anticipation of hearing soon from you,

Your Sincerely

Sadhana Gera,

(Wife of Late Mr. Gulshan Gera)
