Story:

There was a time in my life when I used to lay my hands on books as if there is not another day in life. But as I grew up I presume my life is stretched a little to, may be a fortnight. Last couple of weeks I had laid my hands on a book by a person who wrote the Life Lessons for the Young Professionals of Modern India, born a decade after the Independences and who saw a resurgent India and was a Part of that re-surging India, esp the IT Industry.

Most of the Management books are full of stories which are hard to believe and far from ground realities, which ordinary mortals like us can never apprise to be except a few who can pull off with a little of luck from the almighty and the God parents. But this story is different. Each of us can feel that "Oye, this is exactly what I have done too!!!" Somewhere along as we read this book, there are many anecdotes with which you can identify.

The Only difference is this man did the right things at the right times and he was born in the right times too. Above all he went on to listen to his blind mother's words "Jao, Jagat ta ke Chamum khao" which means  "Go Kiss the World" in Oriya, which is the title of the Book by Subroto Baghchi also author of two more business books "The High Performance Entrepreneur" and "The Professional". You will discover that there is nothing extraordinary that Subroto did in life, But he was successful!

Its a Short 239 Pages full of anecdotes from the life and the times of Subroto costing Rs. 399 from the publishers of Penguin Books India. Its a Wonderful book with inspirational nuggets of wisdom from Subroto's childhood to his pinnacle of career to start a company by name Mindtree. The cover design is like a Kiddy Book cover, very colorful way to say the title, but none the less inside pages are laced with simplicity and slow success achieved through sheer handwork, integrity and commitment to his work.

The Books is divided into three parts just like the distinct phases of any Human life, His child hood as the first part, his early childhood from the interior lands of Orrisa to the start of his career, then his growth as management executive trainee of DCM factory to IT Software Parks of Bangalore as the Second Part and finally the third part deals with His own Rebirth in his forties, of starting a company of his own Mindtree and becoming a Gardener of the company. Its a Journey of this humble man from the lands of interior rural Orrisa, where stories of poverty, starvation, famine, natural disasters, is all we hear, this man raises to become of the Co-founders of Mindtree, one of the admired software company of India. The Books sounds like an Autobiography of the author full of wisdom and tips for wanna be entrepreneurs written without any jargon or complicated English. Its an Ideal Book that should be read by every Management Students, Young Professionals, Managers and Business Leaders, Budding Entrepreneurs and Young Indians.

The book, is an inspirational book for young Indians to struggle against all odds to succeed in life. Subroto Bagchi also discusses various concepts like physical displacement, keeping faith in adversity, grace under pressure, power of mentoring, amongst others. The Book, is full of memorable quotes and lessons about displacement, progress, adversity, faith, grace, pressure, mentoring, Memorability, future of Desire and fate, mind games, Mid-life crisis, successes and failures of the Life and times of Subroto Bagchi's life.

The author, born to Makhan Gopal Bagchi and Labonya Prova Bagchi in Patnagarh as the fifth child, just when "the big red sun emerged from East" May 1957. The Author had a keen eye for observation since he childhood and recollect all that was happening around him as if they had happened recently. He does have a Gift to tell story in Plain Simple English, which a School kid will understand, but with a great deal of details. Through a series of interesting narrative anecdotes from his humble child hood to becoming a gardener of MindTree, he makes us undertake the Journey and making us reliase that we all can do the same. Even though he picks moments from his life, he does keeps his personal life out  of the book, which could have been interesting to find about how he balanced work and family life.

He described the typical Govt Employee's Job and Family life which most of us would recall if our parents were one too and the transfers and the details of the Places where he was displaced along the family, which he considers as the key for progress. Rolling Stones Move On learning a lot. The role of His mother in moulding his capacity to see with an open eye the universe. Her immense faith in Adversity. The learning from pain and taking pressure graceful and moving on with life.

Each chapter of the Book teaches the lessons Subroto learned as his life meandered, gracefully learning from the pains of life from being the youngest of the five brothers to a clerk in the corridors of Powers to a management trainee of DCM to Join Wipro and finally as the entrepreneur to start Mindtree. He shows the power of mentoring during early days of the life, where we can ask with humility and receive knowledge from our own near and dear to share it with others and get blessed.

I have picked up some of the lessons from this book which I do use to illustrate in my sessions situations. We all know It's Just in the mind, be it destiny or ambition to achieve. The lessons we learn by listening and receiving them whichever quarter they come and how to spread the good word by acting as a catalyst. The Art of Giving so that you receive in abundance. The way we connect people by means of emotions and aspire to great heights of achievements. The problems of over confidence and Over achievement and how to deal with them. How self-doubting can be turned into positive effect in such situations by soul searching. The important of each and person in your life Big or Small, be your boss or the better half or the kid or the Elevator operator. Learn to Forgive and be graceful in doing it. The Key to Happiness is not Just Money, which is not the source of everlasting happiness, but may be the end of Happiness.

"At the source of a river, we have no idea of the path it will take to reach its confluence"

Every one can make it big, but Few make it Good as long as it Lasts!!!
