Put together plastic acting, weak story line, haphazard camerawork and a director with a seriously misinformed about homosexuality - these are the key elements of Girlfriend.
The story is of two female friends - where isha kopikar is very possessive of her dumb and pretty or (pretty dumb) roomie amrita. It so happens, amrita meets a nice boy and hence the love triangle. In accusing amrita arora, her boyfriend manages to extract a story of a night of passion the 2 friends shared in drunken stupor. Ok I dont know about you but I have girlfriends and the thought of this makes me sick. This is not what lesbianism is! If Isha Kopikar was one - why on earth did amrita relent. The story turns bloody when the boyfriend wants to marry amrita (despite her ''other'' tendencies!) Oh and I cant forget a gay who keeps weaving in and out of the story - just for laughs.
Also why did Isha turn all psycho - again not a trait specific to gayism. Similar situation in a regular film and the other friend would have been heartbroken but still would have sung wedding songs at the sangeet.
A song or two might just keep your senses about you else the story and the film are crap. A lot of irrelevant connotations to intimacy, and getting the subject completely wrong - no wonder there was lot of poster burning at the screening!
