Stylish Masala - Aamir Style

Being an Aamir Khan fan myself, I tend to appreciate his movies more than the other films but would try to bring out something from this write up. Stars need a dedicated fan base to be in the business and sometimes try to make movies for them only. Ghajini is primarily a movie that he has made for his fans rather than for a wider audience and hence I think this movie was promoted overboard to create the hysteria to get a wider audience and to make inroads into smaller centers where his so called ‘intelligent movies’ do not connect. May be it may turn out to be a well thought out strategy and to garner enough money for his forthcoming ‘meaningful’ productions.

The plot of the movie has been judged in detail by me fellow amateur critics; hence I think it should not be discussed now. I expected a lot more bloody action which would have been better but would have limited it to male/ youth audiences. Although the Tamil treatment of the movie has made it different on the look and feel from the usual stuff and if Aamir had portrayed a urbane Tamil Character with a bit of accented Hindi it would have been more engrossing. They could have played the songs in the background which would have made the film more gripping. The plot and premise is not bad and as all bollywood movies this one is also a collage of powerful scenes intermittent with some loose ones.

Aamir Khan could have done better with styling himself with full sleeve shirts in the business tycoon role as his rolled up half sleeves was not very well soothing to my eyes, don’t know what others think. And I also must admit that since I watched the Tamil version hence it had taken out a little bit of the punch but at the end the high adrenaline climax prevailed.

But overall I guess the movie entertained me for three hours, specially the climax fight sequence which is the fulcrum and brings some novelty too. Performance wise all the actors were good and Ghajini (Pradeep Rawat) could have done away with his clichéd clothes to make him more menacing. Asin was good; Jiah Khan and Riyaz Khan were not bad.

As far as Aamir goes, the menacing stares and angry look was a welcome change from the chocolate face he is supposed to have which was the highlight of his performance infact he was more menacing than the villains and I guess he enjoyed it as every film hero wants to bash villains and romance the heroine in a single film. The background score also highlighted the menace and anger of the lead character. He also deliberately prefers some masala roles like Fanaa, Ghajini and Raja Hindustani to rake in high grosses.

The Crossover film generation is finding it diffcult to digest a masala fare and this film would appeal more to Aamir fans and masses. And yes, since all folks who have watched the movie despite after all being more attached with a bit of more meaningful cinema has served the purpose of this film's makers that is to make some moolah at the box office.
