Having been raised in Georgia, I have had several opportunities to visit different areas of this beautiful state. And one of my families favorite places to visit is Tybee Island Georgia.

History

The beautiful island was first discovered in 1520 by Fransisco Fordillo who was a Spanish explore. The islands rich history contains stories of battles between Spain and the French over Sassafrases plants, not to mention the history of why some think this island is really the place where Blackbeard buried his pirates treasure.

There is also a fort located nearby where civil battle took place between the confederates and union soldiers. At fort Sumpter you can tour the wonderfully intact fort of where this bloody battle took place.

Fort Screven is located directly on the island and has a history all its own. Having been the training ground for thousands of American soldiers during World War I and World War II.

And if all that is not what you would like, there are the light house tours of an light house that is over 270 years old. It has been fully restored and is a wonderful place to view that end of the island from after climbing the 178 steps to reach the top of the beautiful building.

There is also a marine museum on the island that offers wonderful tours and is super for anyone curious about the animals living in the sea.

Boat tours and walking, hiking and biking are all enjoyed on this island and the islands nearby.

Hotels and Beach

We make the trip to the island every fall, and have enjoyed the hospitality of the same hotel except the first year we came to the island. I recommend to really enjoy your hotel room view as much as the touring time, stay in a beach front room.

There are many hotels to choose from on the island, many choices for many budgets.

The beaches are always beautiful white sand, at night you can hear the ocean crashing against the shore which makes for a wonderfully relaxing trip.

Overall

If you want time to relax and unwind, for me, this is the place. There are tons of other wonderful activities to do both on the island, the ones nearby or in Savanna Georgia located not far way.

Note: Because I do not know how many RS equals one dollar, I cannot accurately say how much it would cost in those terms. We spend around $400.00 dollars for three people for three days. This includes hotel costs.
