Driving is a privelege not a right. Review on General views on Indian Traffic

The way we drive, it seems that we consider it our birthright and the road belongs to us! The driver behind the wheel may be the head honcho of a large corporation or a knowledge worker, but will show complete lack of courtesy, manners and disrespect for the rules of road!

Who else but us, are responsible for the state of traffic in India. Each and everyone of us is accountable for this..I am just letting my thots flow on what we can do to have a safe, comfortable and enjoyable driving experience..There might not be any sequence or continuity in my List..pls bear with it. Quite a few of these, I have put down based onmy driving experience, Not that I am a very sane driver..but I am sure not that insane..

1. Red Means Stop. Please stop.. do not try to win the race with the signal lights.

   
   




2. Please slow down when you see Green turning Yellow..dont step up.

   
   




3. Green means 'Please go now' and not 'RUSH NOW'..Wait till the last person who managed to step up on seeing the Green turning yellow.

   
   




4. Avoid flashing headlights - It is really irritating. If you are that blind a person, that you cannot see the road without the same, you better not drive.

   
   




5. Drive within the speed limits. An excess 5 KM/Hr takes about 20 feet more for a sudden stop..

   
   




6. Please follow one-ways..

   
   




7. Cut your ego for right of way. If the other person does not yield let him enjoy the pleasure of winning you, however if somebody is offering u the right of way take it..and give him a nice smiling wave..what have you got to lose

   
   




8. Dont drive too slowly..you are actually blocking others..drive within the speed limit at a decent speed.

   
   




9. Pick up the correct lane and stick to it. Do not change lanes...like you own the road..have consideration for others...

   
   




10. Dont drive on pavements..they are for pedestrians. I have seen quite a few real jerks doing so..it is real unfortunate

    
    




11. On narrow mountain roads, drive as far to the left as possible and sound your horn where you cannot see at least 200 feet ahead or on steep curves

    
    




12. If a driver is going slowly, don't honk just to make a slow driver hurry. The driver may be ill, lost, or may be having problems with the car

    
    




13. Don't honk simply to show other drivers that they have made a mistake. Your honking may upset them so much that they may make more mistakes

    
    




14. Never honk because you are angry or upset

    
    




15. Honking IRRITATES drivers and increases noise pollution. If you drive safely and courteously honking will not be required.

    
    

Use horn sparingly...

Pls wear safety belts ..they make a lot of difference..

There is too much to write and too less a space..everyone of us have a moral and social responsibility towards Indian traffic scene..each one of us can make a positive difference..if only we try..lets make driving a pleasant experience for everybody.
