It is not a cakewalk :))

Let me start by saying that my first job was with a call center and having worked there; all I can say is that it is not a cakewalk.

I joined Convergys in July last year and worked for 4 months.it was not a well thought out decision to join CVG but leaving was well planned.

To begin with, for all people who have not worked in a call center.let me make some terms simpler. There are inbound and outbound processes in a call center.Outbound is where you call up people for a product or service they are using or would like to use.Inbound is where you get calls for a specific product or service.

I was working with Microsoft XP process which was an inbound US process and purely technical. We had US customers calling us for a problem which was technical. Our job was to recreate the same problem on our PC and give a solution.and it not easy. Most of us think that talking on phone is not a big deal.mind it.when you have to talk to a person for sometimes more than 3 hours.you hate phones. On the other hand, when you solve the issue.the'thank you' sounds like golden words. Each call can break or mend your day.the golden rule is'Empathize and not sympathize'.the customer is human and deal with him like one.

The best part in working in a call center is the respect that you get from the opposite sex.you are not a meek, belittled woman there.work and earn the money is the call here.

If I list my personal experiences here.it would be cumbersome for me and for you all.but then I learnt quite a few things which I would like to quickly mention.

  1. Call centres are not glamorous MNC's which pay you for nothing.they work like normal organisations.the onnly difference being in the timings.

2.Never assume that you can get into a call centre. If you have time in hand and never gave a call centre interview.try one now.you will be surprised by how many actually can get through.

  1. The skills that can get you a call center job is communication skills and good english.for you to survive there.you need determination and enough motivation.

  2. Never laugh at someone who works in a call center.they are employees who are putting in a lot of effort for every paisa they earn.

5.Call center like other organisations have its limitatations and good points.do not generalise and do not assume.according to me, International call center is anyday better than a Domestic one.Facilities given are excellent and well maintained.

6.It has a career for those who are willing to put in their energies into this job.the facilities, the money and the respect.it has all.

  1. Do not join if you are bad at patience, listening and loner.Lonely souls would get a lot more lonely there.Sleep will get affected and be ready for that.

  2. Never forget that your family and friends come first.you have joined a call center and it is not their responsibilty to remind you theeir birthdays, anniversaries etc.

9.If working in a call center, respect all.even the cab drivers.they work twice as hard as you.n they are responsible to deposit you back home.safely!

  1. The experience of working in a call center is an experience in a very different way.it taught me a lot in a few days.the best part is learning is on the job.each day is new and different.

I dont know if I manage to put a positive or a negative perspective to the readers.personally, I do not regret joining a call center and would recommend to all.who want to do it.

More next time:)
