Check out your web host

LLooking for a good web host to host your web site is a very daunting task. You need to get a host that provides a good service at reasonable price. There are some basics that need to be looked out when searching for a web hosting company The first thing you need to is research the company you will be hosting your site

What services do they offer?

Compatibility with Existing Software and Skills: Is your host’s server, software and support services compatible will the skills and software that you are using? If, for instance, you are used to working in a ASP environment, then it probably makes little sense to choose an Unix host.

Flexibility and Room for Growth: You may need a simple site now but you may later perhaps require a database

solution.Similarly, a shared hosting arrangement may be fine now, but what if your traffic increases with pace of time. So, when choosing a host, keep in mind your possible future needs, and whether the host will be able to accommodate them.

Details on server- is it shared or Dedicated Server? Do they provide only shared server or do they alos provide dedicated servers. Dedicated servers are useful for sites with large volume of traffic.

Quality of existing customers: Check out their customer list. Do they have any corporate clients or big clients.

Opinions of existing customers: Jsut dont be satisfied seeing the clients list. Call up a couple of clients and ask them if they are satisfied with the services being offered.

Are those services comparable to the services that other companies offer: Compare the rates and services with other

companies before deciding on what to choose?

Where are they located? Find out the location of servers and their office location? Is the physical location of the company easily accessible? What is their access to the servers in case the servers are down.

Speed and Reliability of the Servers and Hardware? Speed is a major factor on the internet. So check out the speed of the existing sites.

Backup Systems in case of network or power failure or something else goes wrong on your site.Look for servers with

uninterrupted power supply system.

What is their tech support policy? Is it free or chargeable? When is it available? Choose a company which provides 24 hours of service.

If the above points are taken care of, then it should not be difficult in choosing the right host for your web site.
