Public speaking is an art which can be learned by anybody. There are several kinds of speeches delivered. In this review, I am trying to give a general idea of the basics which we need to take care for any kind of speeches.

Preparation

Whether it is 1 minute speech or a full day class preparation is a must. How much preparation you required, depends what you have in store. If you have sufficient stock of materials which are required to deliver a good speech your preparation can be much less, compare to a person who is a beginner. Generally, we have to have the language, knowledge, Confidence, techniques and experience with us to deliver a successful speech. So, take stock of your assets.

Before deciding to deliver a speech, check your language capacity (vocabulary, Grammar, pronunciation, ability to explain things in English etc.). If you need to improve on any department, keep working on it. However, remember that language is a sea and you cannot swim and cross the entire length by yourself. For example, the language requirement for a speech to children and a speech to professionals is different. You don't need to have an MA in literature to deliver a good speech. However, you need one language which can express what you intend to speak. However, always improve on your language skill.

There is no alternative for knowledge. You are speaking because there are people to listen to you. If you don't have knowledge, you are wasting your time and their time. They are sitting and listening to you, because they expect to know or learn something from you. Or in some cases you are their representative and you should speak what they expect from you. So, knowledge is essential. Speeches of welcome, thanksgiving etc, also require some kind of knowledge, like the name and address of the guests, their status, the content of their speech etc. So, your preparation should start from the time you decide to speak in public. How to get knowledge? For beginning, you can start reading books, consult experienced persons, listen to speeches in the subject etc. Try to keep a record of what you are learning so that you can refer it easily later. Try to have a book on quotations, stories etc stored separately which can be used as a referring tool for any speech for years. Prepare yourself with new knowledge where you are aware with the existing wisdom as well.

You don't need to worry about public speaking if you have language and knowledge. Still, people who have good language and good knowledge are not necessarily good speakers. Simply because they didn't assert themselves that they can speak. Stage fear is one barrier one need to cross to give a confident speech. How you can do that? Basic is to start looking at people's eyes when you speak to them in person. Begin with your friends. Start talking to them looking at their eyes. Try to speak what you feel in any small group. Don't miss any chance to address a gathering and express your opinion. You simply stand up, express what you have to tell and sit down. Also attend some training classes when available. It is better if you remove this stage fear in your school days. If by any chance you could not learn it in your school days, no need to worry, you can still practice it.

Once you have language and knowledge and confidence, it is a matter of simple techniques that makes the difference. So, why not you learn all those or many of those so that you can also become a master of public speaking? Let it be your movement of hands, expression in your face, your posture, the structure of the text delivered, composition of jokes, quotations and stories to the subject itself or interaction with the group. Read from many available books. Also attend various speeches and seminars to learn the techniques they deliver so that you can select some good ones and practice.

Remember, Preparation makes you confident, your speech effective and the result a success. So, be prepared. Do your homework before delivering it in public. If you are not ready to prepare yourself for a speech, don't waste your time and the listener's time.

Public Speaking

Once you have all the preparation, you are there to deliver the speech. You are well dressed. No need to be dress like a fashion model, so that people will listen to your speech than to your dress. You arrived on correct time or even 5 minutes early so that confidence of the organizers asserted. You are not worried. You are confident. You are pleasant. There is a time specified for you. You walk to the stage with a brief smile. Look at the audience and deliver a gentle recognition. You begin your speech confidently. You are feeling that audience is listening to you. Give your best to them. Deliver the best speech you can deliver at that point of time. Try to be more expressive, informative and entertaining. Address any general concern expressed by the audience. Give recognition to those who give valuable contribution to the speech from the audience. Have good eye contact with the group. Also finish the speech with a positive note and on time. Don't forget to thank the organizers for giving the opportunity and the audience for their creative attention.

Feedbacks

When one person delivers a speech, he is doing 3 things at a time. He is thinking what is to be said next, giving words to his previous thinking and checking audience how they attend the speech. Always observe good. Take feedbacks and suggestions from your friends and audience. Every delivered speech should be a learning tool for your next speeches.

The art of public speaking is learned by thorough preparation, efficient delivery of the speech, taking correct action, reaction and feedbacks. Prepare yourself with more knowledge, better language and effective and efficient delivery techniques. You can be a magnetic person by public speaking. Public speaking is a gateway for money, fame and glory. It is the best method to influence people, win their heart and motivate them for the good.
