The Hindi Music industry has lately been overflowing ''super hits'' from Himesh Reshammiya. Since Emraan Hashmi has had many of these to his credit, I was quite disinterested when I saw the Gangster promo for the first time. But as soon as I heard the KK track, I was floored! With a cool beginning in Dhoom, music director Pritam sure has come of age.

  1. Tu hi meri shab hai- KK

The album begins with this extremely melodious track. Over the years KK has given us some very fine songs and this is another one to his credit. The lyrics by Sayeed Qadri are simple yet subtle. The intro music is very interesting in the manner it gathers pace. This is a song which will definitely make a lasting impact- it sure made me go get the album. ;)

  1. Bheegi Bheegi- James

Another Pak artist on the block makes a solid entry with this fast paced number. He has loads of energy and though this song fluctuates a lot in terms of range, he manages to render this song with complete emotion. The ''aha aha'' part sounds very calm in between the track and diametrically energetic towards the end. Another song which will make you feel like hitting the rewind button.

  1. Lamha Lamha- Abhijeet

Its been quite some time since I heard Abhijeet. I wont say this particular number makes for a ''wow'' comeback. It begins on a sweet note with some pleasant music but somehow, it doesn't keep up the interest. Maybe, I wasnt very impressed as Lamha Lamha fails to match up to the standards of the earlier two tracks.

  1. Mujhe Mat Roko- Kavita Seth

This is one of those songs that gives an instant deja vu kind of feeling. It sounded something like ''Tu bin bataye'' from RDB, something like those love themes we hear on and off...It doesnt have any music other than a bass feel. This semi classical song makes for pleasant hearing. I think it is some immensely situational track which would probably play in the bakground.

  1. Tu hi meri shab hai Remix/Euro Mix

There isnt much to comment about these two tracks as I have never been in favour of remixes. The song is so beautiful that I had mixed feelings- did the remix sound unecessary or did it maintain the quality of the song? Any listener can answer that for himself, I guess. But yeah, the remixes would sound nice as dance numbers.

  1. Lamha Lamha- with Sunidhi Chauhan

This is exactly the same song, just aided halfway by Sunidhi. She sounds good as always, but then the song on the whole is not very impressive. It is passable at best.

  1. Ya Ali- Zubin

A fantastic track which will enthrall you! This is by new singer on the block- Zubin and he sails through his debut score. It has some really fine lyrics and some foot tapping music. I found the voice has a distinct earthy feel and is still soft. Ya Ali sounds well recorded, well sung and well packaged- a winner all the way.

Gangster is rumoured to be the story of Abu Salem. The promos look stylish, its Shiny Ahuja's second movie- inspite of these merits, I can't say how the movie will fare. But what has no doubt at all is that the music is definitely worth listening to!
