Frida is a movie about destiny and desire. Salma Hayek plays Frida, a Spanish artist who's destiny is littered with chance by design. Frida, at a very young age, meets destiny, because on a very fateful day she decides to run and catch a bus. The accident that ensues changes her life, and the course that it might have taken. Finding herself encapsulated by a cast, she starts to paint, first it was butterflies. Her Father seeing her talent, and the limitations of her cast, upon which she drew, bought her the tools of a painters trade., and this is where desire and destiny meet. She is a woman with a dream, and also the courage to decide and to accept her fate. She has seen the work of a great artist, and when she needs an appraisal of her work, she seeks out her guide to her future. He sees her work, and the rest as they say is history. They marry, both have many illicit love affairs, he has more , they divorce, and remarry. Frida is sad. beautiful and poignant. Salma Hayek was rightfully nominated for the award, and should have won, her competition was very good, she was better. Anyone who has a dream and a vision should see Frida at least once. Buy it, rent it, I believe that you will enjoy this portrayal of an above average woman, who looked at life, and rode with the wind.
