Worst of the hospitals for women!

There is a Hindi proverb, "Naam bade aur darshan chhotey". If you ask me about Fortis La Femme in GK-2, the hospital especially for women, I would utter the same proverb. If you consider my experience, this is just an ordinary nursing home with a big brand name. So, please avoid it if you consider any treatment for yourself or for your loved once.

Let me share my story with you. Fortis La Femme was recommended by our doctor who was taking care of my wife's pregnancy.

It was due in May second week. I became a proud dad of a baby boy on April 25, though. Till 9th month everything looked good, except that during last consultation, our doctor found that my wife has high BP and foetus has high heart beat. She sent us to Fortis La Femme for observation. Within an hour they took her for c-section operation. Unfortunately they did not give us time to think or consider taking second opinion. So, from April 25 evening, both mom & son were admitted in this hospital. This so called hospital looks like a nice hotel and they have big rooms for patients and one can easily get impressed, which we did.

  1. Doctors, Consultants & Nursing Staff: None of these are compassionate or show empathy that is required for people of this profession. There is a sense of carelessness & casual attitude. It looked to me that nurses are not trained or qualified. For example, our doctor told them that her patient was diabetic due to pregnancy and hypertensive. She instructed for some 6 glucose bottles for 24 hours. In 10 hours, they changed 5 bottles. When I asked, they said it was instructed. When I called duty doctor, she did not bother checking it and argued with me that patient did not have diabetes. Finally I had to complain to our doctor and she scolded them for carelessness.

Duty doctors here are rude and insensitive. Their visits to my wife were casual and it seemed to me as if they were compelled to visit patients. Duty doctor never heard what patient or her attendant said. Nurses always talked in some South Indian language while attending to patients. Other time, they were busy in chit-chat. They never turn up though buzzer call and you have to go to nursing station to call them.

Nurses lack coordination, second, they are bad listeners. Third, duty doctors show off as if they are obliging you by visiting the patients. Nurses hardly cared about what was prescribed and what they administered. I honestly believe if I hadn't questioned them, they would have filled my diabetic wife with glucose. Surprisingly, this hospital never maintains detail of patient history in patient's room. The reason could be, you can find out what actually is being given to the patient, which hospital does not want.

  1. House-Keeping & Cleaning staff: Worst than a road side dhaba. You will have to call them many times to get the room cleaned. No one will come for cleaning the bathroom until you call them at least 5 times. You will probably laugh if I tell you that once they forgot to provide any bed sheets and pillows to me, an attendant.

On other occasion I was informed that almost everyone from housekeeping is on leave and bed-sheets & pillows cannot be provided.

  1. Room Service:If you are interested in tasteless and expensive food, go there. It was tasteless even from a patient's point of view. And you eat it, you will be a patient. Ha Ha! I believe no one would like to pay Rs. 24.00 for a slice of bread. Fortis La Femme is not a big hospital, but their room service takes much longer to serve you than a five star restaurant.

  2. Front Office: During day, there is enough staff to attend people, may be because new patients visit during day only. During night, if you try to take help from front office, forget it!

  3. Pharmacy: It is run by Religare, but they are not great either. On the second day of our stay there, I went to pharmacy to get a toothbrush for my wife. I asked for a soft bristled one; and the one they gave me I use it for cleaning metal items now. It’s the hardest brushes we have ever used. They are hopeless!

We wanted to make this event a memorable event of our life. Fortis La Femme did this for us, even though they gave us bad memories. However, all's well because it ended well. We are proud parents of a beautiful baby boy who is doing well. We have changed our doctors, though!
