This is my first review, so it may not be up to scratch. Keep watching this space, things can only get better!!
I bought a Ford Ikon Flair in Jun 2004. It cost me 4.8 lakhs, low because I bought it through the Defence Canteen facility (no tax! Hehe!Would basically cost only 4.3 L, but read on to taste money-blow technology at its worst!) and high because I wanted Black (dealers told me I’d have to jabardasti take a 24000-buck add-on kit with it).So I ended up with Black leather seat covers (I’d not have bought it otherwise, in Indian climes), electric boot release (Yes! Worth 8K), Company-fitted music system (FordMazdaSanyo,,,it sucks, and has no CD! Don’t ever buy THAT!)
Bought from Jullunder, the car has traversed Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, MP, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and is now at Cochin! Yes, it still works, and well too.
And I am still not broke! Guess that says a lot, what with remarks about it being a high fuel guzzler!
I use it extensively for long drives and less for daily commuting, and am simply delighted with the vehicle, its features, absolutely brilliant looks, excellent handling and good mileage.
Driving from Delhi to Mumbai, then from Mumbai to Cochin, when I moved with my family, lots of luggage and a big dog, it was Oh-so-easy to clock about 700 km a day, driving solo. Got a mileage of 18 (!) kmpl on these two sectors!
Yes, its real! And, I don’t work for Ford!
Of cos, the roads were a dream too. Normally I get about 12 kmpl in the city. If I were too buy another car, it would be still a Ford Ikon...cos its SIMPLY DA BEST on the road....for its price tag..Great Buy. PS: Add to that the good FORD service culture in most parts of India (except ONE bad taste with Shakti Ford at Mumbai, where I encountered absolute dismal service).
Maybe, I will update this piece as time goes by, if at all things get worse (hope not!), I get wiser and better at writing reviews on this wonderful portal (hope Yes!), or, all of the above, not necessarily in that order! Insha Allah!!
Go Get It, as somebody else would put it… But for a Josh Machine on my name, and Black at that, anything Goes…even that stupid FMS stereo or the jabardasti-peddled black leather seat covers, which makes omlettes out of your posterior every time you hope in, in the summers! But that’s just until the FORD IKON’s AC blasts the chilled beer out of your bones!!!
