I had driven a Ford Ecosport diesel model 2016 which has 100 ps power . So it was a latest Ford Ecosport and a top model car. I did not buy this, it belonged to my relative. I drove for less than an hour within the city of Hyderabad.
It is relatively easy to drive in the city. The seating position is a bit high, seats are narrow, but well finished and hugging with a high quality plastics dash board whose design is somewhat flat and very sporty.
With high seating position you can see over the roof tops of the cars going ahead of you. The brakes are quite sharp like that of my Pulsar 220 bikes front brakes. The steering wheel is damn accurate, it is very smooth to turn. The gear box very perfect, in fact it is picture perfect.
One can easily notice the fact that cabin noise is zero. The suspension is quite stiff and clutch is also tight. There is no wobbling and also there is no body roll which causes vomiting sensation or headache. But since the suspension is stiff, you do feel all the tarmac and every patch on the road, let alone small pits and bumps on the road. It heaves up and down on patchy roads even for the driver and with this you can imagine the situation for the people sitting on the back seat!
The top model according to my relative had cost him nearly 13 lakhs on road including everything in Hyderabad.
The pickup is excellent with 100 PS power which is nearly equals to 98 bhp. The power to weight ratio is the advantage here. For example Tata safari storm is 150 ps but its weight is higher so 100 ps of Ford Ecosport is equal to 140 bhp of tata safari storm.
Now 2016 Tata safari storm has 150 ps of power.
So, Ford ecosport is quick and nimble and power spread is also very linear in all gears. I had slowed down in 3rd gear but even then it was climbing up an incline without knocking.
It only knocked in 4th gear when I had slowed down at the city speeds. It is quite good for city drive. One must appreciate also its almost silent cabin. You will not know whether it is diesel or petrol engine. Outside noise will not penetrate the cabin.
I did not drive it on the highway so I really do not know how it behaves.
As far as space is concerned it very tight. Only two adults can sit on the back seat. There is absolutely no chance for a third person!
The outside temperature and average mileage is shown on the dash board. It was showing 15 kmpl when I was driving in the city.
