Must have been Love

No one loves just once. No love is truly special. But every love affair has memorable moments. And those moments stay with you forever. The icecream-melting green eyes, the angelic smile best elicited at the beginning of the relationship and the tender fragrance of that unkempt first kiss. Pride was in the air....Then. The December chill of North India didn't ditter from braving the foggy nights. Monkey cap was further augmented by the geyser of a muffler. All this after being coated by layers of sweaters but the taut shoulders being disguised well by that eponymous leather jacket every twenty-something guy is so very enamoured with. Life was good. And hot....When thankfully, everyone else was cold.

All good things come to an end. And one realises that maybe they weren't that good at all. The toll that a serious relationship gone-seriously-wrong, takes on one's work and other relationships can be bad from worse. It is hard to say goodbye. But maybe that's the best thing to do. I am a professional singer-composer now. But then I was a passionate lover and music was the only solace during those lonesome days. The well-meaning friends, howsoever sincere they may be, are somewhere happy when a relationship breaks. For they are the ones who shall get more attention as compared with earlier times. Still, the pathos, that is buried deep inside can't be really empathised totally. For every relationship is special. And every experience is unique and personal. I found solace in songs. Always. Just humming something for myself is the best way of raising my spirits. Something within told me that when you are flooded by tears, that's the time when you must force yourself to smile the most. That's my philosophy now as well. Wipe your tears....With a smile. So, now....Over to the songs that I recommend to the newly broken hearted....

1)

It must have been love....But it's over now

It must have been good....but lost it somehow

This fabulous number by pop-rock group Roxxette has always been one of my favourites. I am sure many of you have this one as your favourite as well. The composition is great. The lyrics are very universal for everyone can associate with it and the passionate rendition by the lead singer makes one cherish this song.

2)

Some days are diamonds....Some days are stones

This timeless number by John Denver has amazingly simple lyrics that soothes the senses....

When you ask how I’ve been here without you

I like to say I’ve been fine and I do

But we both know the truth is hard to come by

And if I told the truth, that’s not quite true

Some days are diamonds, some days are stone

Some time the hard times won’t leave you alone

Some times the cold winds blow a chill in my bones

Some days are diamonds, some days are stone

I guess the lyrics says it all. And it has been sung in honey-gravel voice and a laid-back tempo that calms perfectly.

Tanhaai, tanhaai

This soulful track from the movie Dil Chahta Hai has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy while the lyrics have been penned by Javed Akhtar. Sonu Nigam with vast pitch range gives this song a shot of nostalgia-quotient that in unmistakable. Here I would also give credit to actor Aamir Khan on whom the song has been picturised for the hues and shades on his face truly symbolises the term 'loneliness' itself. Best for shedding tears of remembrance. Take a dose of the https://lyrics....

Dil ke raaste mein kaisi thokar maine khaayi

Toote khwaab saare, ek maayusi hai chhaayi

Har khushi so gayi, zindagi kho gayi

Tumko jo pyaar kiya maine to sazaa main paayi

Tanhaai, tanhaai, milo hai phaili hui tanhaai

4)

Are you lonesome tonight

do you miss me tonight

Are you sorry we drifted apart

Does your memory stray to a bright sunny day

When I kissed you and called you sweetheart

Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare

Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there

Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again

Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight

Lonesome Tonight by Elvis Presley has been sung by other guys as well but no one can do it better than teh king himself. It comes straight from the gut- feeling. And the reason why it is such a big hit lies in the simplicity of emotion that is so very universal.

5)

Zindagi ke safar mein guzar jaate hain jo muqaam...Vo phir nahin aate

...Vo phir nahin aate.....

log milte hain...Phool khilte hain...

Patjhad mein jo phhol murjha jaate hain....

Vo baharon ke aane se khilte nahin

kuch log ek roz jo bichad jaate hain

Vo hazaron ke aane se milte nahin.....

This timeless classic from a Rajesh Khanna movie is my all-time favourite. I personally rate it as the best song sung by Kishore Kumar and in my opinion, lyricist Anand Bakshi could never repeat his magic after writing this one. It's just so perfect.

Hope you guys liked my selection. Do let me know what you feel about it. And don't let the heartache get you down....Always remember....Some days are diamonds....Some days are stones...

Cheers!!!!!
