In my view, all films deserve to be seen by maximum number of people because no matter how bad a film it takes the same effort to be made.

It is really sad that people live with a project for years and make it for years and the audience in just a matter of three hours judges whether or not a film is good.

But here we are talking about good films that haven’t reached a wider audience.

Instead of digging into the past, here are five films of the recent past which didn’t get their due. If they did get critical acclaim, they failed monetarily.

  1. Asoka

Santosh Sivan lived with the subject of this film for more than six years before he finally convinced Shah Rukh Khan to produce it for him and to star in it. Lot of people were expecting a lesson in history when they went to watch this film (which is beyond me!!!!!!).

It was a beautiful narration of what might have happened in Ashoka’s life to make him turn into a spiritual phenomenon.

Completely fictional though. The film had some great cinematography (given the fact that the director is an A class cinematographer).

The music by Anu Malik was a memorable score as well.

  1. The Legend of Bhagat Singh

This film got all the critical acclaim that it rightly deserved. But then again the audience was divided between the two big films made on the same subject released on the same day.

While Shaheed Bhagat Singh was a commercial version of the same, The Legend of Bhagat Singh was more historically correct and more factual in its presentation.

Had Sunny Deol agreed to play Chandrashekhar Azad in Rajkumar Santoshi’s film, the film would have probably been the biggest hit of the year.

  1. Moksh

Cinematographer Ashok Mehta’s first directorial venture was an amazing treat for the eyes. While the first half was pure visual bliss, the second half was an engaging courtroom drama.

The whole world that went gaga over Arjun Rampal in a disastrous film Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, they should have seen this hunk perform in his actual debut film.

  1. Mission Kashmir

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film about Kashmiriyat was a hit but not as big a hit as it deserved to be. A completely flawless this one was almost a masterpiece.

Amazing performances and classy technical work, Mission Kashmir is one of my favourites.

  1. Khamoshi

A film about deaf and mute people – was the verdict and the film was ruled out. But for those who have seen this film can vouch that it was more sensitive than even Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and had some uniqueness to it.

Awesome performances by Salman Khan, Manisha, Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas the film also had melodious music.
