Over the past few days, whenever I was free, I used to watch a lot of rip-roaring comedies, old and new. No, I wasn’t watching Aishwarya Rai a.k.a. (tr)Ash (thanks Raj for that perfect nickname) trying to act. But I was watching really comic movies with the likes of Gulzar and Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Farhan Akhtar. And I got this idea, to add a new category in mouthshut. Sadly mouthshut is not adding any advice categories right now so..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

Ofcourse, choosing ONLY 5 are impossible, but still, the 5 funniest quotes(in no particular order), the rip-roaring sentences, in Hindi Cinema according to me are:

  1. Have you vere had the feeling that somebody is cheating you and you can’t figure out what the heck that is?

Have you ever heard an old hindi film’s song when you are put in the situation as above

Have you ever watched Suneil Shetty listen to one of R.D. Burman’s funniest song?

Quote: Golmaal hai bhai sab Golmaal Hai! –Apne who gana suna?

Film: Hera Pheri

Reason: This scene in Hera Phera was one of the Sunil Shetty’s humourous best. He carries that confused and scared impression that somebody is cheating him. He feels that if he signs this piece of paper, which he’s forced to, he’ll land himself in big trouble. Right at this minute, we hear the title track from Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Golmaal! That was definitely one of the funniest parts of the scene. And then a dazed Sunil Shetty goes, “Apne who gana suna?” following by Akshay Kumar accusing him of being a thief in the heart. This scene was definitely worth coming here. Other funny moments in this film included, the fighting scenes, the introduction between Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, and the telephone scene- “Gabira speaking!”

Translation: Everything is fishy around here! –Did you just here that song?

  1. Did your girlfriend just give an ultimatum to choose between your best friend and her?

Did your watch just stop working?

Did you just try to make a last minute patch up with your girlfriend?

Did you ever watch Saif Ali Khan speak in cut sentences in to his one of many girlfriend?

Quote: ’’Haan mein, magar woh, sunoh toh, tumne toh, lekin mein, kab se ki!’’

Film: Dil Chatha Hai

Reason: Well, the quote definitely says it all. Add to this, Saif Ali Khan’s perfect comic timing, and Aamir Khan’s lie to Saif’s girlfriend with Akshay Khanna watching as the silent bystander. This scene was definitely Farhan Akhtar at his comic best. A scene well executed, and fantastically performed. A scene which makes you burst into peals of laughter. Love it to the core, movie, scene, and quote! Picking out other parts from this movie is hard ‘cause they’re all good, but some that stay in mind- Subodh’s scenes, and the trio together in Goa.

Translation: Yes I, but that, but listen, but you, but I, from when!”

Do you like Radish parothas?

Do you like bhang(opium)?

Do you walk in the market swimming like an animal?

Have you seen Sanjeev Kumar getting angry in fornt of a scared Devendra Sharama

Quote: Nasha mein jhumta hua, sand ki tarha tehel raha tha market mein!

Movie: Angoor

Reason: Well, the meaning of this quote just makes you burst laughing. The scene that comes before this and the scene when continuing on after this wuote are both equally hilarious. After Sanjeev Kumar sees Bahadur’s double(my review on Angoor will help understand better), and comes back to the hotel smouldering, thinking Bahadur had bhang, starts shouting only to see that his lunch his muli ke parathe. Both the performances were brilliant, and the direction was a masterwork by none other than Gulzar saab. He just makes it so realistic. Other quotes from this movie, are “Preetam A Milo ABE Preetam Aaa Milo,” and “Machar jai machar dani mein or aap hai bister pe, aur machar samjhe ki aap machar dani mein hai aur isliye who wahan jate hain aur….” Perfect example of people when they forget what they are saying mid-way. And ofcourse, “Mere pita marne se phele ek din zinda the!”

Translation: Swaying in intoxication, you were swimming in the market like a hippo.

Did you ever have to wear a short kurta to office because you were out of stock?

Did you ever have to lie about your adarsh pitaaji to your maybe new employer?

Did you ever have to make a classic excuse to make sure everybody knows you have kurtas at home?

Quote: Mere pitaaji kaha kehte the, ki kurte apne sharir ki upranye ko chupane jane ki liye phena jata hai. Agar Bharat ke sare kurte, agar 6 inch bhi chota kar diya jaye, to is desh ki kapdoin ki samasya hal ho jaye gi

Film: Golmaal

Reason: I term this quote as the classic excuse. If you see Amol Palekar and Utpal Dutt’s face in this scene, you might just die laughing. In an attempt to secure his job, Amol Palekar says this in shudh hindi. This scene was made by none other, than maestro, Hrishikesh Mukherjee a.k.a. Hrishida. The way he shows the desperation in a young man’s face is just brilliant. This movie is filled with funny quotes like “Eeeeesssshhhh!” or the time where his friends tell hime that there is no harm in telling that his dead mother has fever, he’s just bringing her alive! Ofcourse, I had to choose from this or Golmaal’s “Saab Kumar, P.K. aye hai!” but I think this is just a wee bit better. Why don’t you try maing up your mind?

Translation: My father said, that the kurta is meant to cover only the upper part of your body. If all of India’s kurtas were just cut by 6 inch of length, this country’s clothing problem would be over.

Blow the trumpets fro a quote not from a film, but an actress with the name of Aishwarya Rai!

Quote: I only do roles of substance

Reason: LOL! TO THE POWER OF INFINITY! Somebody remember Taal, Khakee, Jeans, HDDCS etc. etc

''Mere pita marne se phele ek din zinda the''- Angoor

''Sabh Kumar P.K. aye hai''- Chupke Chupke

''Mujhe South India se koi shautan nahi chaiye To tume kya NOrth India se sauthan chaiye''- Hey Ram

And how can I not froget, ''Do dost ek chali se peeyenge!'' Andaaz Apna Apna
