Born in a Sikh family on 8 Feb 1941 in ShriGanganagar, Rajasthan and was trained under Ustad Jamal Khan of the Senia Gharana. Jagjit has conquered the world with his music that’s why his parents must have given him the name Jag-Jit which means the one who wins the world. He did B.A from D.A.V college, Jalandar and PG from Kurukshetra univ, Haryana and came to Mumbai to seek his fortune where he fell in love and latter married to Chitra Singh.

  1. Woh kaagaz ki kashti

Sudarshan Fakir wrote this nostalgic ghazal sung by Jagjit & Chitra and the touchy lyrics brings tears in eyes.

Kadi dhuup mein apne ghar se nikalana

vo chidiya vo bulbul vo titali pakadna

(vo gudiya ki shaadi mein ladana jhagadna

vo jhoolon se giranaa vo gir ke sambhalana)

vo piital ke chhallon ke pyaare se tohafe

vo TuTii huii choodiyon kii nishaanii

ye daulat bhii le lo, ye shoharat bhii le lo

bhale chhiin lo mujhse merii javaanii

magar mujhko lauTaa do bachapan kaa saavan

vo kaaGaz kii kashtii, vo baarish kaa paanii

  1. *Besabab baat badhaane kii

*This ghazal has a distinct shade and worth noticing lyrics by Shahid Kabir.

Besabab baat badhaane kii zaruurat kyaa hai

ham Khafaa kab the manaane kii zaruurat kyaa hai

(dil se milane kii tamannaa hii nahiin jab dil mein

haath se haath milaane kii zaruurat kyaa hai)

rang aaNkhon ke liye buu hai damaagon ke liye

phuul ko haath lagaane kii zaruurat kyaa hai

  1. Tumko dekhaa to

Javed akhtar saab is a less commercial lyricist and more of a thought provoking poet. He has written ’n’ number of ghazals and this classic is one of the example.

Tumko dekhaa to ye Khayaal aayaa

zindagi dhuup tum ghanaa saayaa

(aaj phir dil ne ek tamannaa kii

aaj phir dil ko hamane samajhaayaa)

tum chale jaaoge to sochenge

hamne kyaa khoyaa, hamne kyaa paayaa

ham jise gunagunaa nahiin sakate

vaqt ne aisaa giit kyuuN gaayaa

  1. Koyi Fariyaad from the movie Tum Bin

Faiz Anwar has given many hits but he came in the limelight only after Sonu Nigam’s Deewana.

Har Mulaakat Pe Mehsoos Yehi Hota Hai

Har Mulaakat Pe Mehsoos Yehi Hota Hai

Mujhse Kuch Teri Nazar Pooch Rahi Ho Jaise

Jaagte Jaagte Ek Umr Kati Ho Jaise

Jaan Baaki Baaki Hai Magar Saas Ruki Ho Jaise

Raah Chalte Huve Aksar Yeh Ghumaan Hota Hai

Woh Nazar Chupke Mujhe Dekh Rahi Ho Jaise

(Ek Lamhe Mein Simat Aaya Hai Sadiyon Ka Safar

Zindagi Tez Bahut Tez Chali Ho Jaise)

Koyi Fariyaad Tere Dil Mein Dabi Ho Jaise

Koyi Fariyaad Tere Dil Mein Dabi Ho Jaise

Tune Aankhon Se Koyi Baat Kahi Ho Jaise

  1. *Hosh Valon Ko Khabar

*Penned by a great poet Nida Fazli who gave hits like Aa Bhi Jaa-Sur, Dil mein jaagi Dhadkan-Sur, Kabhi Shaam Dhale-Sur, Kabhi kisee ko Mukammal Jahan-Aahista Aahista, Chaahat naa Hoti-Chaahat

Unse Nazrein Kya Mili Roshan Fizayen Ho Gayi

Aaj Jaana Pyar Ki Jaadugari Kya Cheez Hai

Ishq Kije Phir Samajhiye.

Khulti Zulfon Ne Sikhayi Mausamon Ko Shayari

Jhukti Aankhon Ne Bataya Maikashi Kya Cheez Hai

Ishq Kije Phir Samajhiye.

(Hum Labon Se Keh Na Paye Unse Haal-E-Dil Kabhi

Aur Voh Samjhe Nahin Yeh Khamoshi Kya Cheez Hai)

Ishq Kije Phir Samajhiye.

Hosh Valon Ko Khabar Kya Bekhudi Kya Cheez Hai

Ishq Kije Phir Samajhiye Zindagi Kya Cheez Hai

Hosh Valon Ko Khabar Kya.
