Five towers of Bollywood………..
As the topic suggests itself this review of mine will be dedicated to the 5 great actors of Bollywood. I will be presenting this review in two different categories in the first I will list the 5 icons of Indian cinema and in the second category I will present you the 5 great actors ruling the CURRENT Indian cinema.
PART-I--------------------5 ICONS OF INDIAN CINEMA
1) AMITABH BACHHAN
He is a real icon of Indian cinema. He is the superstar of the millennium. First angry young man of Indian cinema, first Indian to have a statue of wax in London, superstar who is ruling the Indian cinema from 4 decades.
Well words fell short to describe the achievements of this man; whenever you talk about Indian cinema you will remember Amitabh.
HIS CAREER
He started his career by playing a cameo in Saat Hindustani. Then he played a few very insignificant roles in Reshma aur shera and Bombay to Goa etc etc. He was about to pack his bag when he got Zanjeer the movie that established Amitabh as the angry young man. After the huge success of Zanjeer he never saw back and reached the level and the point of no return.
A COMPLETE ACTOR
He is not only an action hero but also a complete actor. He can do any type of role whether comedy, action emotion or drama. Movies like Baghbaan, Black and Bunty aur bubli prove this point.
2) DILIP KUMAR (the Tragedy King”)
Another superstar, another icon of Indian cinema. He is best known for his serious roles and was nominated with the title of “Tragedy King”. He gave so many super hits movies and was the style icon of the youth of 50’s and 60’s. His performance in Madhumati, Mughle- E-Azam, Daag and Karma are worth noting.
He is best known for serious roles but he like Amitabh Bachhan is a complete actor his comic touch can be seen in movies like Ram aur Shyam, Andaj and KARMA.
3) RAJ KAPOOR
He is the man who changed the face of Indian cinema. He followed the west and tried to adopt the same in Indian cinema. Charlie Chaplin was his idol and he tried to imitate him. He was not only a complete actor but a great director also. He not only entertained the public with some great movies but he raised the problems of the common man via the medium of his movies. His movies were based on the problems of the common man. His great looks, his power packed performances and his presentation made him the icon and a great director. He will always be remembered for his great work.
4) DEV ANAND
First “chocolate face” hero of Indian cinema. He was the first hero who took millions of hearts with his looks. His style his face was more than enough to create a buzz among the hearts of millions. Girls were completely mad for him and the boys tried to follow his hairstyle and his act. He is also the first evergreen hero of Indian cinema.
He tried his luck in direction also but was not able to make it big in that. His first movie Hare Rama Hare Krishna was a big hit but after that he was not able to produce even a single hit.
His performances in GUIDE, CID and Kala Bajaar are worth watching. He was the first style icon of Indian cinema and still rules the hearts of millions.
5) GURU DUTT
For no-5 slot the competition was real tough between Guru dutt, Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar. But since the spot can be given to only one I gave it to Guru Dutt since he was not only a good actor but a great director also.
Guru Dutt the face of the common man. He neither had great looks like of Dev Anand nor height and personality of Amitabh Bachhan. But he ruled the industry with his powerful direction and performance.
He played very tough roles with ease and his movies didn’t only entertain the people but always brought messages for the general public.
Pyasaa, Kagaj ke phool, Chaudhvi ka Chand and Aar Paar are few of the jewels under his crown.
PART II------------------------- 5 HOT SHOTS OF CURRENT BOLLYWOOD
1) SHAH RUKH KHAN
He is the superstar of current Bollywood. He has reached a level where he can carry the whole movie on his shoulders. He can best be fitted into romantic and emotional roles.
His performances in Kuch Kuch hota hai, DDLJ and Veer Zaara are excellent.
2) AAMIR KHAN
A complete actor and the best among the group. He started his career as a romantic hero and made huge success with his first movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Like Dev Anand he is known for his chocolate looks. His performances in Dil Chatha Hai, Lagaan and Jo jeeta wahin sikander were brilliant.
3) AJAY DEVGAN
He started his career as an action hero but soon movies like Raju Chacha and ishq proved that he is equally good in comedy also. The actor with not so great looks is better known for his acting in Hum Dil De chuke Sanam, Company and Lazza.
4) AKSHAY KUMAR
You hate him you love him but you cannot ignore him. Critics write him off as an actor but it’s been almost 15 years for him in this industry and he is going great guns. His recent performances in Aitraaj and waqt are quite good and so as the movies.
5) ABHISHEK BACHHAN / SAIF ALI KHAN
I will share this spot between Saif and Abhishek. Abhishek is going great guns since Yuva so Saif recently won the national award for Hum Tum. Saif is known more for his looks and his hold in comedy roles while Abhishek is better known for his intense performances. Saif is a vetern while Abhishek carry on his shoulders the tag of Big-B.
