Kudos to Finnair!. Review on Finnair

I and my family of four used Finnair from Helsinki to Mumbai(Flight AYO029). This is the first time that we flew in Finnair. The only reason we chose Finnair was due to its economic price plan. Purchasing, seating arrangement and special meals request was done online, which was straight-forward.

Helsinki Airport: The departure area is quite big and airy. Check-in was quick and smooth. There was a Finnair girl roaming the floor, which was very helpful. Our check-in luggage was slightly overweight, which was waived by Finnair.

1) Security check: Contrary to other reviews, we had no hassles at security. But we did take special precautions not to keep liquid items on us. On the way back, I had a 200ml of toothpaste which I had to relinquish. I was hoping that they would let it pass:(

2) Pass the security check, the airport has a lot of anemnities. Even has special childcare facilities, including a play-center and stationary rides. impressive! So, with people travelling with toddlers and infants, you could be at ease. Plenty of restaurants and shops(all extremely expensive). There are plenty of seats where you could lay down and sleep. There is a prayer room at the domestic arrival terminal, but its for all religions(got to exit the waiting area and then go through security to come back in). All-in-all, the waiting area is clean, relatively quite and with just the right ambience.

Flight: Excellent service! Delicious food, sufficient leg-space, helpful and kind air-hostesses. Finnair has employed Indians on-board on this segment(males and females), which is a good change. We had requested special meals on this flight. There seemed to be a slight confusion with meals since the passengers sitting behind us had ordered the same meals and then changed their seats. this was sorted out in a couple of minutes. Thats the only inconvenience I had on this flight. Beverages were served frequently.

The children were provided with coloring book, crayons and puppets, this was enough to keep them occupied for a short time. Each seat has a touch-screen monitor to it. plenty of channels and programs to chose from. Believe me, you won't get bored! Maybe tired, but not bored.

Wife is quite sensitive to motion-sickness. Before landing, she just couldn't control it and finally puked. The air-hostesses promptly cleaned it and sprayed the carpet. all within 5mins. They were even kind enough to ask for her well-being and if she needed any assistance or medication. Most people in this situation would most probably give a dirty look before doing their job, but in this case the airhostesses did it in a professional and caring manner.

The flight departed on time from Helsinki but arrived 15-20mins late at BOM. not sure why. All our baggage arrived without any damage.

In summary, my impression of Finnair is excellent, for now. I would recommend it without any reservations or prejudice.
