Fanaa is evidently a cut above the rest of the movies in its genre, and what grants it this recognition is its story and screenplay. The ongoings are authentically presented, while maintaining all the necessary ingredients for entertainment .It holds you till the interval and the next quarter, but the climax and the resolution let it down. Story..... Fate has a strange way of getting your past and present together. Sometimes this comes as a pleasant surprise and sometimes.....it brings in a dilemma. This is what happens to Kajol. Because she has to choose from a past, that she never knew, and a present she has just known.... She lives somewhere in the remote interiors of Kashmir. She has everything a girl would want - a beautiful physical appearance, a doting parents[Rishi Kapoor ,Kiron Kher] also she is a gifted dancer that makes her even more special. But god has his own way to take something from you that would have otherwise made you a perfect living being. She is blind. Actual drama takes place when she visits New Delhi for a stage dance on 26th Jan ,Republic day .Enters a dashing young man Amir Khan in her life who is a local guide. They both come across each other and while Kajol falls for his honesty and charm, Amir does not believe in love and emotion. Finally he sees himself falling in love with her due to her inner and outer beauty. Meanwhile they decide to spend their rest of lives together but not before Kajol has been treated for her handicap. But as all love stories, even this isn't without its share of thorns as even before She could see him ,he dies in a bomb blast . She finds her eye sight back but loose her love in the bargain! What happens next? critical analysis As a director Kunal Kohili is only half successful . He directs the first half with complete understanding and utilises the chemistry and charm of Kajo-Amir perfectly. The sequence between Kajol-Amir is very realistically done without being overly melodramatic. They look very dignified together and make a perfect couple. There is a certain amount of freshness about the proceedings in the first half which will have appeal to the youth and keep the viewer entertained.... its the second half where the movie fails. With mostly flawless performance from entire lead starcast, one expected the story to take a dynamic turn post-interval. But surprisingly the sequences that follow are hardly dynamic with number of instances turning out to be predictable. Actually, the story starts moving in an altogether new zone and the sequence of events are quite gripping till the moment Amir lands in Kajol's residence .The pace slackens right down here and the sequence of events that follow are oft repeated and slow the tempo down. And that's where things stagnate .Even after he is perfectly fit ,he totally forgets about his mission and what follows are song and more songs! Thankfully high point of the movie appears soon towards pre-climax when both Kajol-Amir come face to face with each other and she recognises him. A brilliant scene indeed which directly goes into your heart ....The turn of events after she spots dead body of her father [moving over glacier] and gets to know that Amir has murdered her uncle has been well canned and Kunal does a superb job of handling the last 30 minutes of the movie.Just when you think that there would be fireworks ,climax comes as a big jolt .There is no drama at all ! Technically, the film is brilliant. Ravi Chandan’s cinematography is breathtaking at times and songs have been canned expertly. A special mention must be given to the art direction as the set is high on standards and can easily match the best in Hollywood. The only culprit is the editing as the scissors could have been used more effectively especially with the portions in Delhi which never seem ending. Music The music, however, could have been much better. A genre of this type needs
