A film by Rahul Bose had to happen some time. Having acted in most of the Hinglish films except for Nagesh Kukunoor films it was quite inevitable that he dons the directors cap one day. But what I didn't expect was such a damn neat film, though I had been waiting for its release from the day it was anounced almost 2 years back. The concept was definitely solid.

PLOT!

The Film is about people(mostly high society types) pretending to be picture perfect. Zen (Rehaan Engineer) is a hairstylist who can listen to the innermost thoughts of people when he cuts their hair. His customers includes a wannabe film star Rage (Rahul Bose), a socialite Tanya (Pooja Bhatt), troubled girl Nikita (newcomer Koel Purie), and a super bitchy socialite Misha (Anahita Uberoi)who sells cocaine to young boys to fund her own drug addiction & Businessman Of The Year Siddharth Mittal (Boman Irani). Zen after reading their thoughts, tries to help them. He is intrigued when he is unable to read the mind of Nikita & predictably falling in love with her.

The acting in the film is quite good. Pooja Bhatt seems to be finally doing the kindoff roles & films she wouldn't be embarrased about. She is very graceful in the film. Koel Puri kicks a$s with her debut. I couldn't recognize her in the 1st scene when she has long hair from the posters & promos. Man she looked so good!!! U can say I was more pissed than her character Nikita when Xen cuts her hair off. Rehaan Engineer does a decent job of giving the pained-n-puzzled expression throughout the film. But at times one wished he did more than that. Rahul Bose's RAGE was way over the top ...but the surprising part is he carries it off without irritating U. Infact his was one of my fav characters in the film. I just loved the way Xen saves his life. Anahita Uberoi with her Parsi accent was a pleasure to watch.

The look of the film is uite trendy as was expected but at the same time giving the film a very STUDIO LOOK. At times one felt as if it was a play we are watching & not a film. Reason being the sets & sometimes the dialogues. Like the climax where Nikita comes to Xen after her father's death.

All in all a very impressive debut by Rahul Bose. The movie is quite cerebral too what with topics like Drugs & Incest its definitely way beyond the jhatka matka fans of our Bollywood heros like Hritick & his clans. Its not for everyone just like the eclectic music by Zakir Hussain. From Trance to Qawali to Jazz to funk. The soundtrack is one of the best. And for 40 bucks its one of the best bargains of the year. I just loved the mix of qawali & rap. The lyrics were quite good too. The direction was damn neat for a debutante director. The scenes where Xen is reading his customers mind is neat. The way their lip movement is SLO MO is synchronised is neat.

The movie has done roaring business I think. Its running onto its 5th week here in mumbai. So if u r in a town where its running & havnt seen it yet...plz do.
