Awesome movie! A MUST WATCH with family. Review on English Vinglish

Was waiting eagerly for ENGLISH VINGLISH. Finally watched it. It was amazing.It is a story of a simple Maharashtrian housewife who lives with her family (a dominating husband, an arrogant teenaged daughter, a sweet son n warm mother-in-law) in Pune. She is a perfect mother, wife n daughter in law doing each n everything for her family.

She is a wonderful cook and makes very tasty “boondi Ladoos” n sells them thus earning her own money, in short she is a small businesswoman. However she cannot speak English and so is ridiculed by her harsh husband and oversmart daughter. They keep taunting her and make fun of her ‘weakness’.

Still she loves them a lot. Its her niece’s wedding in NewYork for which she is invited 4 weeks earlier. Her family will join her later in the USA.

*In her Visa interview the American asks her “how will u survive in USA without knowing English..”

On which his Indian colleague smartly replies “the same way as you survive in India without knowing Hindi”  :) :)

So a worried, low confident Shashi flies to USA. Her co-passenger is Mr. Amitab who gives her wise advice in his short cameo. Says “ In Angreso se mat daro, ab unhe humse darne ka waqt aa gaya hai”.*

Shashi reaches her sister’s house. Her sister is a nice lady who has raised her 2 daughters Meera n Radha alone after her husband’s death. The girls are very sweet to their Shashi maasi, specially Radha the younger niece.

Once Shashi is alone at a café, she feels hungry, cannot manage to order a snack for herself in the American land, that’s the point she feels very low, cries a lot and decides to join a 4 week English learning class in NY.

She sneaks out everyday to attend her English class. **The class is a mixture of students from various countries and they have their own reasons to learn good English.

A Spanish lady, an Indian, A Pakistani cab driver, A French cook, A Chinese hairdresser, an African and our beautiful Indian lady Shashi.**The class scenes are very well shot showing how everyone is keen to learn the language , Shashi being the most sincere student. She does everything from reading books, seeing English movies, watching news only to learn English. It is a fun filled atmosphere. The French guy likes her simplicity n becomes her very good friend. David sir is the English teacher.

Sir calls her “entrepreneur” as she runs her own ladoo making business. This boosts her confidence.

Back at home, Shashi’s husband still doesn’t leave a chance to make fun of her on the phone ditto for her daughter. But she helps herself to continue learning the new language. Her confidence rises day by day. Her French friend appreciates her cooking talent which makes her feel so good about herself.

In come Shashi’s family from India. So is she able to complete the course and take the exam?

The climax is just too good.

The music is perfect for the story. Manhattan, English-Vinglish , and background music is very good. Navrai majhi laadachi laadachi ga is traditional yet peppy. Great music !!

The movie teaches many lessons without preaching anything.

*It nicely tells us not to look down upon anyone who doesn’t know English , instead help that person to learn it.

We should respect our dear homemakers who are so taken for granted. They deserve equal love and respect from everyone. It's also about chasing ur dream be it big or small.

Also there is no age limit to learn something new..you can master anything if u really want to..

N finally love yourself it will make life so much beautiful…*

About Acting : This is Sridevi’s movie..she is just mindblowing..she easily plays the role of a simple Indian housewife perfectly. All her emotions look so real. It makes u laugh n cry.

Her sarees are soooooo beautiful. Indian Sarees make a woman look just awesome..

The French actor is good. All other characters play their role well. Radha – Shashi’s  niece has acted really very nicely.Dialogues are too good and every scene is shot well..

Kudos to Gauri Shinde for narrating such a simple heart touching story so effectively.. Thanks hope u get more of such meaningful movies in future..

*All the Kareenas, Deepikas, Katrinas need to take some acting lessons from the legendary Sridevi. They need to understand that only stupid item numbers cannot play any magic..its meaningful movies that audience are interested in !!!

This is a perfect family movie..Go watch it with your dear parents, grandparents n children..or even with ur friends.. just enjoy it…surely u will love it..*
