It was a great pleasure to watch Dunki celebrity first day first show after a long time. Dunki is the perfect end to an exciting year for Shahrukh Khan. The superstar has given 3 blockbuster movies in a single year. Earlier, Pathaan and Jawan had broken records at the box office and now Dunki has become a sensation because of the unique storylines and brilliant performance from Shahrukuh.
Dunki is an social comedy drama & an heartwarming take on the poor illegal immigrants from Punjab who make dangerous journeys in a desperate search for success.
The movie begins with Manu ( Taapsee) , Bali ( Anil Grover) , Buggu Lakhanpal ( Vikram Kochhar) , and Sukhi ( Vicky Kaushal) , from a small village Laltu, Punjab, decide to go to London for various reasons. Hardy ( Shah Rukh Khan) a soldier, helps them achieve their dream through the Dunki,
( illegal way of crossing borders) They all go through a tough but life changing journey. What experiences they faced in this journey is what the film is about.
This film is a comedy movie with strong acting, memorable characters, a perplexing storyline and most importantly, highly motivational movie to choose the right path in life.
Shahrukh Khan brings a lot of emotion and depth to his character. It shows why he’s known as the ‘Badshah’ of Bollywood. Shahrukh has given a heart warming and sincere performance & he gets under the skin of his character.
Taapsee showcases a strong grip on her character, and in the funny ones, too, she holds her ground. The supporting cast, Bomman Irani, especially Kochhar and Grover, are a delight to watch and Vicky Kaushal’s extended cameo is the high point of the film.
Everyone in the movie has some kind of goal that they’re working towards. All the characters feel extremely well developed. Even characters who were on screen only for a bit, or don’t have that big of a role feel important.
It is natural that one expects nothing less than a great film from Rajkumar Hirani and he has done a decent job here. Rajkumar Hirani makes masterful use of his unique stars and intelligent casting to deliver the film’s message while also giving the audience a good laugh. The high point of the film is the fact that director Rajkumar Hirani says so much, and more, without losing his sense of humour.
Dunki might not be Hirani’s best work in comparison to Munna Bhai MBBS, 3 Idiots or PK, but it still entertains and leaves you with a warm feeling as you leave the theatre. Dunki is a roller coaster of feelings and a great Christmas treat for families. Dunki is worth watching if you want a memorable and fun cinematic experience.
