I have been to Dubai at least five times within last three years. I am planning another visit next month. The first time I visited UAE, it was in the year 2005. My children and grand children had been living in UAE since 1996. For my first trip, I landed at Abu Dhabi airport. Its opulence simply dazzled me until I saw Dubai. I had never seen anything like it before.
The airport itself was so big, yet so clean. In all my visits, I experienced no hassles. The airport staff was friendly, but they dealt with you in a business like attitude. Not once, I lost my personal effects. Exit was smooth and easy. My family was there to receive me.
They had come all the way from Alain to receive me. Al Ain is about 140 kilometers from Dubai, and Abu Dhabi too is at a same distance but in another direction. Road journey in UAE is most comfortable. The roads are exceptionally good. We reached Al Ain in less than one and half-hour. In India to travel, this distance it would take much longer. In Al Ain, we lived in a place called Al Buraymi.
It is a place on the border of Oman. Shopkeepers accept in transaction both currencies UAE Durham as well as Omani Riyals. Best thing I liked about Al Ain is Al Ain Mall. As you enter, the mall there is a snow-clad floor where you will find Arab and European kids skating.
From there I visited Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. My first visit to UAE was short because that time I was in service. I could get only a month’s leave. I came back with lots of memories. It was a wonderful experience. About other places, I will mention more in my other posts.
