When you got money baby...show it. I recently flew to apna Bharat through DXB and let me tell you my eyes are still recovering from the dazzle. Hold on, let me take a deep breath and let me say again, wow!!
Dubai has set itself apart from most of the middle east. It's built itself on resources other than oil. In fact all over the airport you see stuff promoting tourism. There's Dubai Shopping Festival, there's Dubai Summer Surprise for children. Dubai for golf. Dubai with buildings sure to wow every architecture freak. Dubai hotels - fancy shmancy.
The airport is spotless...everything from the restrooms to the food court. There's a janitor within 10 feet of you buffing and polishing something to keep it shining.
Variety of food was awesome. Hey, even McDonald's is here, unlike some US airports that make you get by with Roy Rogers!
Dislikes:
Not as many phone booths as they need. People lined up to use the few phones. The phones are all in the WALKWAY which gets crowded during boarding time. A little bit of thinking and someone would have realized they need to put phones in little coves for a quiet conversation.
Getting a phone card was a pain. And when I got it, it was for DHS30. I needed to make a quick call to a friend. A local call. Well, airport officials will tell you that they have different color phones from which local calls are free. So here's why I think no one thought that through either: (a) Cell phone calls - even for cell phones in Dubai - aren't considered local calls. (b) Sharjah is not a local call but it's like a few miles from Dubai.
Oh, this one is a killer. The main Dubai terminal is like a MILE or so from the terminal where flight gates are. Apparently they have escalators, but I hear the the infirm, the elderly, the weak better get a cart to ride in. Even with the cart, it's intimidating and annoying. And you have to go underground no narrow narrow escalators and come up. All that going down and coming up had me dizzy. Perhaps that's what it is that I am still recovering from.
