When a director of the class of farhan goes out to re-make a classic which has entertained Indians no end then one expects innovation, PLUS a dose of ADDED entertainment.

What one finally gets here is a watered down, unimaginative, pretentious version of the original..forget the original for three hours, even on its own merit it suffers from a weak script, and lack of fun totally.

You want to believe in the story and in DON. One is almost struggling with that throughout the film. But eventually you give up almost resignedly.

Shahrukh looks jaded, sleepy and drugged. he was over confident of his prowess and his director..Result..DUD. Though in all fairness one would ike to underline the sincerity of his performance. An actor, mostly relies totally on the brief given by his director. After all he cannot see himself..it is the director who ought to have pitched his role right.

Priyanka chopra's fitness and antics were awesome and inspred more fear than the whole gamut of action by the 'don'. One almost expected that in a duel she would make mincemeat of shahrukh. Here ofcourse its lack of foresight on the part of the director not to have included scenes which exemplified THE DON in all his accomplishments.

Has it struck any of you that 'Duplicate' was a take off on Don almost.. and sharukh in both the avatars was fantastic..becoz the contrast of the characters was striking..here all one realized was an effort by the makers to cash in on an earlier success and second to prove that Shahrukh is Amitabh the second..sorry no takers.

If in fact( SPOILER) Shahrukh at the end was the original then what was the need for the whole caper?? Why would he want the child and play around with the police??? It just did not make any sense.

Most of all this film lacked the quality of an adventure, a thrill promised by its original and the promos..it was like a fizzed out champagne.

A shame really..considering the budget and the stars..only goes to prove that none of these can guarantee a success. When one aims to better a blockbuster, ones talent better be honed, polished and in optimal form..or as odious as comparisons are, they are inevitable. You might just about lose by default.
