Thats what I thought thru out the movie.
SRK in his new avtar is not at all palatable. It was difficult to see him in the role of a don.
Thru out the movie, he never invoked fear and terror in any of the scenes. He did not behave in an atrocious manner. I always thought that the next moment either Rani, Kajol or PZ would pop up on the scene and he will woo them and sing a song.
He doesnt have rippling musles to show off, neither does he have a scary personality.
The action scenes were shot in such a manner that it was always a close shot of SRK. He wasnt given much to pummel and throw around, or even kick, box. He didnt learn any of the martial arts for this movie, no special effects too?????????
The director has shown a modern don in a modern city. Where are all the gizmos that should be a part of a dons garb. Some thing that is invariably a part of James Bond movies. C'mon Farhan it is not that difficult to dispaly such gizmos, guns in the movie. The don had no impact in the movie. Neither did he ooze charisma and charm. SRK has not done his homework at all. I think Sanjay Dutt, Hritik, Amitabh himself, or even Amir Khan could have done justice to the role of don.
SRK ppplllease stick to your lovey dovey roles. I am very fond of you in the chiffon wrapped, chocolatey, mushy, mushy, rosy romantic movies.
Boman Irani looks funny running around with his huge belly. Do we have such cops in our police dept. I wonder. But he atleast did justice to his role.
Kareena, Isha, had insipid nondescript roles. K surely needs to shed weight. Even sucessful heroines put on and shed weight for a role, so why not her? Isha had hardly any role to write back home about. Thru out the movie she was simpering, and giving Priyanka dirty looks. But in the end ,she gets to keep the cake and eat it too.
Arjun Rampal was like a lost cow in the movie. He did not add any new dimension to the role essyed by the legendary Pran.
Priyanka, the dons moll atleast was shown to learn martial arts. She displayed a well toned body. Her acting was average.
Om Puri had too short a role, but what ever he did was ok. He can manage that much with aplomb.
Background score and songs could have been much better. SEL have given us much memorable music to hum.
If I compare the movie with the older version, then it should have been left alone if this was the kind of treatment FA had thought it deserved. He did not rope in either Saif or Ajay Devgan for any of he roles. Ajay has done so many -ve roles in his career, he is definitely more convincing. Saif is also an upcoming actor in this genre.
All in all it was quite a let down to see a remake of an old classic.
If I dont compare the movie, and just consider it as a fresh, new entry, then too the movie falls short on performances, action shots, music etc. Omkara has given us good country music, so has Dhoom 1, which is also a high adrenaline dose of drama kinda film.
Lack of performance, weak characterisation, un-innovative storyline, no edge of the seat finish, doomed the movie into oblivion. The twist at the end was abrupt, and not clear. The movie was full of plots and sub plots. They all seemed very cliched.
Characters kept on dying and coming back to life, just as our Ekta Kapoor is taking our trip in the soap operas. It is difficul to follow and swallow such shallow storylines.
Thumbs down to the whole team of DON..........
