Originality:

I must say, I wasn't really looking forward to the music of this movie. Not because I don't like the DON franchise(Huge fan) but simply because the visuals were so arresting, who cares for the music! Anyways, I went ahead listening to it and hopefully give an opinion.

DON 2's music has to definitely have a shadow of its predecessor and it does. Since its a franchise, there is a very little possibility of originality. But that is what the situation calls for. As a stand alone album, DON 2 has a very techno feel to it which I feel will go well with the mood of the film.

Aa raha hoon palat ke *-  its that awesome dialog that you've seen in the promos. Its still awesome, I wish it were a little longer.

Zara dil ko thaam lo *- Techno!  Anusha Mani does a fair job with that dangerous silky voice. But the real surprise is Vishal Dadlani who takes the song to another level. He captures the mood perfectly. Not a dance number but definitely enjoyable with a touch of peppiness!

Hai yeh Maya *- she's back! Usha Uthup! must say I am pleasantly surprised. Haven't been a fan of hers, but no one could have done a better job with this number. It has a nice feel to it. Unfortunately, the song is marred with blaring trumpets which overstay their welcome. Otherwise the song is immensely enjoyable thanks to the haunting vocals of Usha Uthup.

Dushman mera *- probably a tribute to the 80's style of music. It has its moments but fails to make a mark.  Lyrics are forgettable. You do get a tune from the'Main Hoon Don - Shaan' track but that just makes matters worst. The vocals are nothing to write about and it was difficult because its Shankar Mahadevan himself!  I wish they hadn't done this one!

The King is back *- the theme of DON is only ok! I know I was surprised too. Its probably the vocals of Sunita Sarathey which dampen the mood. Otherwise it is a techno take on the trademark DON theme.  It still sounds cool, thanks to Kalyanji Anandji!

Mujhko Pehchanlo *- A jazzed up techno up version of the title track. It has new lyrics and a slightly different structure. KK on the vocals is a worthy replacement to the immensely likable Shaan. Definitely the best track of the album.

Then you have the remixes as well one each for Mujhko Pehchanlo and Hai yeh Maya. Obviously for the party circuit, Hai yeh Maya being the better one.

I am sure this album will receive flak but you must appreciate the fact that it doesn't have the mandatory romantic number or item song which is the norm. It sticks to the thriller mood that the film has been creating with the slick promos. The success of the album will depend on how the film turns out(hope its awesome!).

Its a good attempt by Shankar Ehsan Loy. It has its cool moments and will not disappoint fans of DON.Suffice to say I am not!  Aa gaya laut ke . dekho DON!
