Do Beauty Pageant Contests Bring Out the Beauty Of a Person?

Very difficult to just say Yes or No.

I personally feel, in many ways it just brings out the physical beauty in anyone.

These days all contestants, particularly in India and other countries are groomed so well.

Once they hit the Miss country mark, they are made to practice for the Miss Universe or Miss World pagent.

Everything finally looks very practised, rehearsed and done many times before. I am particularly fedup of seeing all girls strut across the stage and use the same words again and again 'Hi I am some XYZ, and I am from this place, I like to live life to the fullest, I like to live and let live, I want to work towards charity, blind children and blah, blah

Another irritatingly common words  used by all contestants are: beauty pagents are a *PLATFORM for blah, blah, blah *

Why cant they use words other than platform, like beauty pagents are a WAY to, or a GOOD OPPORTUNITY to, or A MEDIUM FOR.etc etc.there are million other words, but everyone will say only platform.

Not to mention the recent phrases like sharing, caring, loving  (all after sushmita's answers).

All these standard words, their constant smiles pasted all the time irrespective of if they win or loose, sometimes makes everything very artificial.

They are taught at every step to behave only in one way or the other, Their own feelings, thoughts and body language is never really reflected in the pageants.

How are we to determine the inner beauty of a person in such a case?

As far as physical beautyis concerned, any average good looking girl about 5 feet, six or seven inches tall, with good sparkling clothes, professional hairdos and the right makeup will look pretty.

I am yet to see some of our Miss Indias look very ugly or physically undeserving their titles.

But the point here is their real beauty, the one that comes from within, which is reflected in their kindness, good deeds and thoughtfulness. Its really difficult to judge that from the contest.

I only feel that some of their real behaviour can be detected by the way they deal with other contestants during the course of stay together or to find out if they actually like being with blind children or old, discarded people(as they state).

Or to also keenly follow the social duties they do towards mankind after winning the title.

I have read in some earlier editions of Femina that Aishwariya Rai was a genuinely good human being, she was caring  and loving and sharing(ooopps the beauty bug bit me!)  towards her co-workers.

Even as a famous model then, she used to be nice and down to earth with camera men and other backstage people.

I also read about Sushmita adopting an orphan child and giving it a good life. That was commendable and true to her Miss universe expectations.

Diana Hayden is also a simple, sweet person who does a lot of charity(She used to be a telephone operator or something for BMG Crescendo, a music company where my uncle worked as Lyrics writer for several pop albums).

So certain things do determine the real beauty finally, but its not always true for/with  most beauty queens.

Beauty Pageants, however continue to churn out numerous beauty queens of which only some leave a mark, Others get lost in the big bad world.
