Been a well-rounded person
Jun 04, 2001 01:48 PM 26104 Views

I just added in this part because a lot of reviews talk about inner beauty.  Yes, inner beauty is important.  What about outer appearance?  Then tell me why you bother shaving, make up and doing your hair?  It's all because you want to be presentable in from of people.  It's because if you have inner beauty, you'll want to look good as well.  I know some of you don't care, and beauty is in the eye of beholder.  When I think someone is attractive you might not agree.

Something everyone have in common is the desire to look good.  That is why we wear matching cloth and look at our face in the mirror everyday before we leave the house.  People just want to know what they'll look like to other people.  While physical beauty can boost someone's confidence.  It's not enough.  That's where inner beauty comes in.  Your attitude and knowledge will earn you the respect your deserve.  I believe there is nothing wrong with just physical beauty in the pageant.  I also believe there are so many beautiful woman out there right now, there is no sense in comparing who is more beautiful.  I think the compeition itself is more about been a well-rounded person.

I personally have no problem with beauty pagents.  They are there just like the compeition man have with sports.  They like the attention and there are people out there that likes to watch it.  It's a lot like cheerleading in that sense.  Does the cheerleaders have to wear revealing cloth to cheer for their team?  No, but they are doing it because they want to, and there are people out there that likes to watch it.  There are a lot of competition where man show off their muscles.  It's happening to both gender so I don't really see the big deal.

I've never join those pagent before in my life, but was in different talent competition for music and art.  I don't see it much different than beauty pagent.  You showcase what you think your talent is and gain pride in that.  Many of you have said that physical beauty does not consider as talent.  Most of the woman trying to use their look to won in pageants to get onto the spotlight.  Fore example, Venessa Williams was Miss America for a short while until they took her title away from her because she posted in Playboys (or another one in the similiar manner).  She has worked in broadway, movies, plus a great signer/actress.  I see nothing wrong with woman trying to use beauty pageant as a jump-start to their career in something else.  For example, last year Miss America was also Miss Hawaii.  She is not the most attractive one on the stage, but she presented herself with a lot of grace and gain respect from others while answering question about children's issues.

What I don't like is how parents that push their kids into beauty pagent at a young age.  I've seem a television special on that years ago, and it scared me what they do to the poor little girls.  They shave their legs and arms.  Sometimes even wax them to get a close shave.  Right, they understand little girls don't have much hair, but those parents think it might be something the judge would pick up on.  They also put little girls in heavy make up and revealing dresses.  Some of the little girls have to go to a special class to learn a talent they could do in the pageant.  A little girl dress in swimsuit and walk around the stage for people to judge her, I think not.  Someone has suggested for me to put my daughter in the beauty pageant.  I think I would not do that until she is to an age where she can decide for herself and be responsible for the decision.  Childhood are the most treasure time in a person's life, why does anyone want to get rid of that by putting revealing cloth and make up on their child?  I never understand that at all.

I agree with many others on how beauty pagent is for man to watch, but I always think it's also sexist where man don't get more pageant of their own.  Woman enter the pagents and get fame and rewards for their beauty and talents.  Believe it or not but in my high school there was a beauty pagent for both male and female.  Unfortunately, no man has ever won the contest.  They are usually just been laugh at.  Very similar to the male cheerleaders in schools.  They have beauty pageants for man and walk around in speedo and put oil on themselves to show off their muscles.  Isn't it the same way as female pageants?  But I've never heard anyone complain about them before.  As if man deserve to be stare at and woman don't.

As far as I know, there are a lot of talent competition in beauty pegant as well.  The larger pageants will make the constants go through training pretty much like a runway model would.  You also get training for your speech and posture.  Like for the annual rose parade in Pasadena, US.  The contestants have to answer various questions about current issues and important topics for them to be in the semi-finals.  There are also a lot of beauty pageants for older woman and for pregnant woman.

It's a two way street, man might watch this for the swimsuit portion, but don't tell me woman didn't throw their underwear onto Tom Jones because he is just talented.  During Tom Jones' concert there are many woman that throw their underwear and hotel key (with room number on it) onto Tom Jones hoping to get his attention.  There are many woman that worship good looking man just as man do to woman.  There are just as many young girls like watching Brad Pitt as young boys like watching Jennifer Anaston.
