This book I read has won the booker prize.when started reading it I thought what the hell did the judges see in this book.now for the story prof david teaches romantic poerty at the cape town university.Apart form wordsworth & bryon, he has another side to his life: his love of women.some time, he is able to woo girls .you are right girls .then he goes to his daughter, lucy.she owns a priece of land somewhrs in southafria & he tries to move in with her.but fate has plan s.his daughter is raped by three natives & avid is also injured & his already shattered life is torn to pieces.somtimes the author loses his track.this could have been avoided .on the whole, a beautiful novel which macke us realise that there is a limit to our involvemnet in others life
