?Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha,? directed by [former] actor Atul Agnihotri, stars Salman Khan as Rishabh, Preity Zinta as Parineeta, Bhoomika Chawla as Dhani, Helen as Dhani?s grandmother, Rati Agnihotri as one of the doctors, Riya Sen as Kaveri (Parineeta?s ?best friend?) and Renuka Sahane as Rishabh?s sister. I was very much appealed by this great star cast that seemed to promise a terrific movie. I couldn?t resist watching the movie.

DNJAK begins with an alarm going off. This is when the much-in-love couple, Rishabh and Pari are introduced. Story moves on with scenes between Rishabh and Pari. They seem to be living a very happy and joyful life until the tragedy strikes (I saw this coming!) Pari meets with an accident and tell the doctor that she wants to donate her heart to one of her own patients (Pari is a doctor herself.) Her wish is granted but the identities of the donor and the patient are not revealed to anyone.

Rishabh falls apart but sees a ray of hope when he finds out that another one of Pari?s wishes was to make a hospital for children. While looking for ideas for the hospital, Rishabh comes across Dhani who seems to have a liking for him. Dhani tries to come close to Rishabh but he doesn?t seem to forget his past, Pari. So, what happens next?

This story is unconventional to some extent but it could have been put together in a better way. By that I mean, the way people think is wholly dependent on how their brain works and not their hearts. Their likes and dislikes are decisions of their brains. Dhani is shown to have Pari?s heart hence, she starts thinking like her. That doesn?t sound reasonable or true.

Another one the weak points is that Rishabh doesn?t want to forget Pari at first but as soon as he finds out that Dhani has Pari?s heart, he starts caring for her (all of a sudden!) I didn?t think that was very faithful of him. His character seemed selfish at that point of time. The change of Rishabh?s heart should?ve been gradual.

The movie was absorbing in the first half especially the scenes between Rishabh and Pari. The two stars seemed like they were meant for the roles. Preity, especially, suited the role completely. As the movie proceeded, the pace seemed to have slowed down immensely. A lot of scenes appeared to be repeated with similar situations.

Salman Khan was the main attraction of the movie. The story revolves around his character as the two actresses come and go. I must say Salman is effective doing a little bit of comedy, some drama and a lot of emotions. Salman does full justice with his role and suits well doing it. His chemistry with Preity is excellent but not as great with Bhoomika.

Preity Zinta was most probably the best choice for this short but meaningful role. Her expressions are brilliant. Nobody could?ve done this role better than her.

Bhoomika Chawla is nothing but ordinary. Although, I must say, she tried her best for delivering her best performance. Despite of that, she fails to deliver an exceptionally good performance. She doesn?t seem to be very expressive with her dialogues and thus, fails to impress. She was ?okay.?

Riya Sen needs a lot of improvement. Her dialogue delivery and accent forces one to take a close look at her just to make sure she?s not American.

Helen and Renuka Sahane are natural!

The songs, for the most part, are not catchy. I found ?Jaane bahara? by A.R.Rehman to be the best of the album. Well placed, great lyrics and amazing music. Rehman impresses with his songs, as usual.

On the whole, DNJAK was nothing special, but can be watched once, just once. Another one of the main attractions of the movie were the dialogues, they were fantastic. With a few improvisations, the movie could?ve been awesome!
