Four days break is enough to watch out complete Dharamshala.

To start with first caution – Never ever travel by a HRTC Volvo bus. It is no way near the comfort of a Volvo and in terms of fare it is far above it.

This is the second time I have suffered while travelling through a HRTC Volvo after my tiring journey to Manali last year.

For budget traveler, one should book a Train ticket from Delhi to Pathankot that is Rs210 for SL class at least two months in advance to ensure reservation. From Pathankot it is a 3&1/2 hours journey to Dharmshala i.e. Rs100.

Once you reach Dharamshala you can find a lot of hotels and guest houses near the Taxi stand. We stayed in Hotel City View with accommodation for two peoples with attached toilet & bathroom for Rs 400/- during the peak season of June. Weather was cool and one nedd to have a quilt at night only. Otherwise during day time we experienced some showers early in the morning and sometime during noon. Since this hill station is at height water drains quickly and hardly after half an hour you can start your journey again. Even during the monsoon season of June end we enjoyed a very pleasant stay and journey here.

People who are more concerned for comfort and ease of travelling can book a two person accommodation at - Kunga Guest House, Bhagsunag Road, Mcleodganj, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, India. Tel:+91.1892.221180 / 221569, +91.98160 21180,

Although we saved INR200 but this guest house is very neat and clean and is in the heart of the city and above all it's restaurant located nearby is blossomed with beautiful blondes throughout the day.

Dharamshala is just like a sober sort of town with some cheap food outlets and away from the hustle and bustle of city. If one chooses to stay in Dharamshala only then there is one Sher-e-Punjab Dhaba, Kotwali Market, Opposite Kangra Art Museum which is the best and cheapest place to eat with really tasty non veg and veg.

I preferred to stay in Dharamshala .It takes half an hour by bus to reach Mcleodganj and fare is just Rs 10. For budget travelers I would advise that they should travel by bus that is the cheapest and fastest means of transport after costly auto or taxis. Buses go everywhere and are easily available. In Mcleodganj places to visit are – Mcleodganj Market, Bhagsu Water Fall and Dal Lake. From Mcleodganj bus goes to Naddi also. Fare to reach Naddi is Rs10 for one side compared to an auto where we paid Rs100 for one side. If one plans to take a bath in the Bhagsu waterfall take a towel and spare underwear along with you as one would cost more near that market. Mcleodganj market is the best place to watch out for beautiful BLONDES.

Dharamshala has the biggest monestry and residence of Dalai Lama. This the biggest monestry I have ever seen and is a nice place to rest and meditate also. Shops nearby offer you to make a call to China  or Tibet for just INR 2/minute also. St. John Church on the way to Mcleodganj is a very ancient church and a very peaceful place to worship and meditate. Scenic beauty is awesome.

One more caution- Never ever break your limits. I tried to go beyond and got almost drowned in Bhagsu waterfall but maintained peace of mind and managed on my own to pull out. Be cautious not to explore beyond the limits when it comes to waterfall.

In the Mcleodganj market, try to negotiate and bring prices to 1/3 of the asked one. I managed to get memento at exactly the 1/3 price after negotiations with lots of roadside shops. All in all this is the best place I have ever visited with the sort of cool atmosphere, friendly and polite peoples and cheap living.

For those travelling by their own vehicles please plan your journey at least one hour ahead of the schedule because the roads leading to Mcleodganj are very narrow after the cars parked on both sides which lead to massive jams.

For those who can manage to go for trekking, there is one Triund mountain range. This is the most beautiful place to visit as I heard from the locals and even in June one can find snow there. But taxi takes you for only three KMs and rest Nine KMs have to cover on foot. It requires two days as one day to reach the top and another day to come down.

Only those who can manage such a harsh climb should only try.
