Why am I writing on such a mundane topic? Well, last night I traveled by the metro yet again and thought…thought of posting a review on what the Metro means…mean to me and to give you my perspective on what the metro travel entail. The credits for this one go to Abha…she made me do it! By the way…this may contradict the views of our much debated and talked about writer Shyam; but like I said before…this is an insider’s view…yeh andar ka mamla hain!

To begin with let me try and relate METRO to aam aadmi…after all the metro ride is for the common people; the regular delhi wallah’s and waali’s !

M- Motivational feel

So how is metro motivational to us? Metro was dream come true for a lot of people who had struggled for years in DTC buses and faced the ruckus caused by auto rickshaw drivers. So when the Metro comes in with its tidy and swanky compartments and stations…us the Delhi wallah’s did not crib about high prices nor did we mess around with it. Metro binds us together, motivating us to make good use of what the system is giving us and not misuse it!

E- Electricity problems

Did you think we would ever change? Metro rides have made life so much easy for most of us but with it came the load shedding problems…So what do you do when you have a load shedding in your house which is near to Metro station? You simply take a metro ride to any station you desire or aspire for and make efficient use of the public transport system and get away from power cuts! That is what I call the “double edged effect”!

T-Timesaving and Trustworthy

With Metro the time for traveling on an average has reduced. We do not think twice now on traveling on public holidays, staying up late nights and working after work hours in offices. Metro hain naa! The incidents of adam and eve teasing in Metros have not been reported in big numbers which make metro rides still trustworthy. Timesaving and trust is what makes metro a good alternative to any other transport system; it makes a good happy family ride!

R- Romance aur kya!

How can I not talk about Metro without talking about the dilwali dilli? Metro is fast turning out to be safe haven for couples who want some privacy and fun! Metro has a special two seater berth which is ideal for any couple. The best part is that it is located in the end of each compartment making it an ideal hit for two people; be it two friends, two colleagues or lovers( gender non specific!) Hey! This is not a balcony seat for couples…so keep your spirits low and stress on mind games while in metro!

O- Omnipresent

If you have not been in Delhi for last 3 years or more, you would not recognize the change Metro has brought about. It has changed the way Delhi looks and it is present almost everywhere. Its presence is reassuring to people who use it and taxing for people whose homes are near the stations. Therefore Metro is omnipresent in Delhi and for all Delhiwallah’s. It is and would be an essential characteristic of Delhi from now on!

So here is what METRO means to some of us at least. But hey, I haven’t done my peek-a-boo section…from the eyes of the regular metro rider!

  1. Metro stations still are clean and can be kept that way. Please adhere to the rules of “Do not eat and drink” while in Metro and keep it the way it should be.

  1. Elevatorsare for use if you are handicapped and if you are not…then DO not pretend to be one.

  2. Rushing into the metro won’t get you a seat…it can lead to some head butting and other objectionable scenes. Kindly avoid the rushing in and wait for your turn in a non existent queue.

  3. Please keep your eyes open and look for your station. Metro stations have easily readable bill boards and asking your neighbor for help is only good in a DTC bus. Read and let others ride!

  4. Metro is centrally air conditioned but that doesn’t mean that you will sleep and snore as well. It is a public transport system and the riders need to maintain the line between public and private space!

  1. Advertisements galore! Metro and the station has specific spaces allocated for putting up ads and there have been quite a few…right from Haldiram’s, Bikanerwala to HIV AIDS…thankfully the quality of content and topic is sober and is effectively placed…!

  2. Metro rides mean traveling with strangers. If you are like me, you would observe, you would stare and you would smile as well…keep doing that and you will get ample chances of repeating these again and again!

  1. Love songs? Metro gives you that possibility too! If you are in the age group of 20 something and in a group…chances are that you would not get a seat…so what do you do…you take up space between two compartments, sit down and sing…or chat way to glory…entirely up to you!

  2. Are you one of those men who are the chivalrous types? Metro is just the right platform for you…if you see a woman standing next to you, with a shoulder bag in one hand and a mobile in another…trying to balance both…what should you do…you offer your seat and make the other men glare at you…meanwhile you can gleefully gather all the appreciative glances of the fairer sex!

  3. Do not get time to do what you always wanted…do that in metro! I mean if you are one of those people who like to stay away for some time, want to think alone or just pass your time reading your favorite book…metro ride is just for you! And if you have a smiling cute face just next to you or better…opposite you, kya baat hain!

That should be enough for people who want to know the inside story of the Metro! If you want to know about the stations, the staff or the ambience…kindly refer to reviews by others who have done a fairly good job of that…my work was to tell you what a metro ride includes and what it can lead to as well…

As always comments are welcome…metro riders can give in their precious bits on what they think of the Metro…I welcome you all to a fun ride in the metro anytime…khub jamegi jab sab mil baithenge…aap, mein aur metro two seater!!!
