Pristine!!!. Review on Dasharatham Movie

Introduction:

This is a film which was released without much fanfare in the late 80's(i think)and was very much applauded for its uniqueness and performances by the lead cast...It was a film made before its time...and it is a kind of film that stays with u long time!!

Story:

Rajiv Menon(Mohanlal)is a happy-go-lucky guy, who doesnt want any responsibilities in life..he is a rich spoilt brat who sometimes even forgets the name of the company for which he is the M.D!

A womaniser,an alcoholic who doubles up as a goonda,who intimidates a local police constable who accuses him of assaulting him..Rajiv is all this and much more...

His big house and company is looked after by his late father's trusted worker(karamana janardhanan)...Rajiv has a good friend in nedumudi venu...

One day ,Venu with his family pays a chance visit to rajivs house..Rajiv has a tough time at first, with Venus kids and eventually begins to enjoy their company..finally when the family leaves after the vacation,he feels a void in his mind...A wierd idea strikes him and that is to have a child of his own..But he doesnt want a wife!!

In comes Annie(Rekha) who is ready to be the surrogate mother for Rajivs child...she does this to redeem her husbands(Murali)sagging career..Murali, a footballer,gets injured and needs a huge amount for his leg operation...rajiv agrees to provide the amount and they both sign the dotted line...

Rajiv literally suffocates the mother and tries to set up the perfect environment for her and her child...he even restricts her from seeing her husband..Annie is initially frustrated but then accepts the new atmosphere and slowly starts developing a liking for the unborn child...

Finally the day comes when the child is born..rajivs joy knows no bounds and as he happily tries take the child,Annie refuses to part with it...

Rajiv is heartbroken and tries all he can to persuade her to give back what is rightfully his child...Annie loves the child so much that she is even ready to forgoo her husband for the sake of the child...

What follows is an emotional climax..which leaves you with a lump in your throat...

Performances:

Mohanlal rides on the back of an author backed role to give yet another perfect performance...Every emotion of his is genuine ..He breathes the charecter of Rajiv Menon..I feel pity for the Non-malayalee audience for not getting a chance to witness the talent that is our Lalettan!!!!

Murali gives in a finely honed performance and so does the rest of the cast..The music flows very well with the story...Grab a copy of the film if u havent seen it....and I assure u u wont regret...

Nedumudi venu as usual is just perfect!!!!

Scenes:

1..The famous climax scene when Mohanlal requests Sukumari to treat her as her son...so that he could understand what a mother would be...

2..Murali comes to meet Rekha and mohanlal initially refuses permission..Rekha when she sees Murali comes running...Mohanlal tries to stop her but she barges out of his way and hugs Murali..Mohanlal remains confused as he doesnt understand the depth of relationships and then renders an extreamly emotional apology without breaking into any serious melodrama!!!!(ah..awesome!!!)

3..The scene when Mohanlal threatens the police constable...Mohanlal exerts his power of money with his trademark smile..

4..The bar scene where Mohanlal begs Nedumudi venu to give him his eldest son and in exchange take all his property....Extreamly fine acting from the 2 actors...

Verdict:

An emotional film....A movie which would stay in your mind long after u have seen it...I seriously pray that the idiot Priyadarshan (i admire him only for his malayalam movies) doesnt remake this in hindi!!!
