Cricket - the test squad for Pakistan?

I have immense faith in the entertainment, genuine cricket provides. I also enjoy the ups and downs in the cricket matches, and natural excitement associated with it. It becomes even more prominent since In India cricket is treated like religion. But I also have an eye for things which happen beyond field. And, that's something that troubles me a lot. I have almost got used to match fixing talks now, accepting them to be a practical aspect of the game, though with a sour heart.

Similarly, I have never been able to, and it seems never will be able to, understand the selection of Indian Cricket Team. It looks I will have to get used to it too, if I want to keep watching cricket, but not before voicing my opinions. So here it comes;

Let's analyse the present composition of Indian Test Cricket Team for Pakistan Series. The Indian team members are: Sourav Ganguly (capt), Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Aakash Chopra, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, L Balaji, Ajit Agarkar, Anil Kumble, Parthiv Patel, Ramesh Powar, Murali Kartik.

Now let's us see what is wrong with it?

First aberration - When will Hemang Badani get his chance???

He is one of the unluckiest guys. Not because he has not been able to show his talent (that I think he has done enough at first class domestic level) but because he is just there and still not there. He is worst off then those who have not got their chances to be in the Indian Squad, at least they get used to it. According to me, this guy has immense potential and he is still not been given a chance. I don't understand when u can test players like DINESH MONGIA, then why not him? In one day matches, he always comes too late to make any impact, and in tests he is not included. Isn't it unfair? The test of true batsman is in the test matches. And, all the players play lots test matches in their first class domestic cricket, then why do they get chances only in Onedayers at international level???

Second Aberration - Sehwag in test Matches???

I personally appreciate the way Sehwag bats. He is really entertaining, and which, I think, is perfectly well in one dayers, but wat about test matches? Let's accept the fact that Sehwag lacks class. His shots are all unconventional, and not too mention, highly risky. He has often been caught in slips and gully, while attempting ambitious air lifters. And, this has happened in test matches too. As far as one dayers are concerned, he is alright since he scores runs very fast, but in test matches u don't need fast scorers but classy shot makers like Dravid and Laxman.

Third Aberration - Three spin bowlers???

If we see our present squad, we have not one, not two but three spin bowlers in the squad. Why do we need so many spin bowlers? Already there were three fast bowlers in the squad, and with the addition of Ajit Agarkar, it became four. And to add to this, at least three batsmen in the squad are potential spin bowlers i.e. Tendulkar, Sehwag and Yuvraj. Then, where is the need for three more spin bowlers? Is it to give chances to a few players, then why not Badani? He is a spin bowler too, along with being a good batsman.

Fourth Aberration - Parthiv Patel???

Parthiv Patel is supposedly being groomed to be a wicket keeper, and that too for long now. International squads are no places for grooming. There you need performers. And going by Parthiv's past record, he is no good batsman and no good wicket keeper either. There are many faces which have not yet been seen. And many who have not been seen well enough. I think there is one such face which has not been tested enough. Remember Deep Dasgupta? He kept wickets and also opened the Indian innings quite successfully against South Africa. He can be an alternative.

I am no specialist in Cricket, rather I don't even know how to play good Cricket, but like any other foolish Indian, still have faith left in Cricket, in spite of the entire match fixing talks, politics etc. And, am smart enough to understand obvious aberrations, but probably not smart enough to stop watching cricket. But seeing things like this, I think, movies seem to be a better entertainment option. However, given the excitement associated with cricket I still will watch the final ODI at Lahore, though may keep myself away from the test matches, and would recommend the same for you. Overall, I will recommend you to keep watching cricket.
